I have for sale a Randall Smithsonian Bowie Knife Model #12-11.
This Randall Smithsonian Bowie Knife is one of their most iconic and largest knives made. The knife has an 11 inch carbon steel blade made from an unbelievable 3/8 inch stock. The top cutting edge is sharpened approximately 4 3/4 inches. It has a heavy Brass lugged hilt (Solid brass double hilt with a lug extending forward at each end), a Scalloped Brass Collar, and a Flanged Scalloped Brass Butt Cap. It also has a beautiful Mexican Desert Ironwood Commando Shaped handle that is approximately 4 inches in length. It is a very heavy knife weighing in at an impressive 28-34 ounces. The Smithsonian Bowie Knife comes with an impressive Randall's Model A Sheath. It is a hand-crafted sheath, shaped to fit each model, made of the finest oil-tanned saddle leather, heavily stitched, with a three-ply stitch-protecting spline of leather around the sides and with a 2 3/4″- 3″ belt loop. The knifepoint cannot pierce the stitching. An orange pocket hone is supplied with this sheath by the manufacturer.
This is a replica of the famous Bowie knife of a century ago. Similar to the type displayed in the Smithsonian Institution and used in the motion picture "The Iron Mistress".
I bought this knife through our late forum member Rick Bowles, who for more than 40 years was the only authorized Scrimshander for Randall Made Knives. He was selected for that position by Bo Randall himself. He was selling the knife on consignment. My knife came from the Andrew Victor Santangini, Jr. Collection. He is the son of Lt Col Andrew V. "Santy" Santangini, 97, who passed away on June 3,2016. He was a highly regarded WWII USAF Air Group Commander. Recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict, he served as a staff officer before returning to civilian life. He was a world-wide traveler and a friend and confidant of many governments from whom he received many awards and citations, one of which read in part:
" You have contributed remarkably to the promotions of friendships between the US and Japan with your excellent character and profound professional knowledge. You have made a great effort to introduce American thought and history, as well as to provide the academic environment. You have contributed to the great results of the study in the US. Your invaluable achievements with your sincere and warm personality have earned our respect and confidence, which will be long remembered as the basis of our friendship between the US and Japan."
In business, Santy was called upon on occasion to make discreet political arrangements where normal diplomatic channels might not suffice. He was an inexhaustible advocate of freedom in all of its aspects, political and economic, on which this great country was founded. He was one of the leaders in the 50s and 60s of the great upheaval that catapulted the South to political prominence that has prevailed for half a century. As Vice-Chairman of the Montgomery County GOP, he wrote the Statement of Principles that served as the philosophical compass guiding political candidates. In business, he was a pioneer in the profession of Financial Planning at First Alabama, Montgomery, AL. His contributions to his country, his state, his community, his friends, and his family will be missed by all.
My price is $1500 including careful insured shipping.
