Some Classic Rifles From Days Gone By

Some of these have popped up here before but I just felt like appreciating these old timers again.
Springfield with the supposedly weak recievers that never stopped me from shooting it, Serial # 19XX but arsenal rebarreled.

My 40th B-day present from my dad, a 1948 Savage 99 Model EG in .300 Savage. Lyman Alaskan and desirable Stith mounts. Look at the top edge of the foreend below the forward mount and there's 16 notches from the deer killed by the original owner, a relative i never met.

1955 Savage .243 Featherweight carved by my dad in the early 60's.

A favorite, 1949 Rem. Model 81 in .300 Savage.

The first Mauser. Single shot Model 1871 11MM, serial #69XX, with a minty bore and box of paper patched German ammo.

I do like the Springfield very much. Maybe I should go hunt for it one day...

No pictures currently available, but I treasure my 1903 Springfields (1918 Springfield and 1942 Remington) and a 1939 Mauser 98K (all matching). I routinely use the 42 Remington for vintage military rifle matches. It is very accurate. On a number of occasions I managed to place very well with it.

I like old rifles and try to pick them up whenever I get an opportunity. I have a old sporter in 6mm built on a 1903 Springfield action. It has a Weatherby styled maple stock and a Weaver K4 scope. I also have a 30-06 built on a Mauser action. It is a little more modern and sports a Hogue stock with an aluminum bedding block and a Leupold 3-9 scope. Both are very accurate rifles, especially the 6mm. I also have a 1909 Argentine Mauser Calvary Carbine and a real nice Winchester 07 that used to belong to the Kentucky State Police. The two sporters were pawn shop finds that I bought and cleaned up.

Got this as a gift from a friend. Model 1912, 7MM Austrian Waffinfarrik Steyr. It will hit a coffee can at a 125 yards if I do my part.
The second is a National Match Garand that I got as trade for some work.

That Remington 81 is a beaut Wyatt! I've seen a few around here in .25 Rem, .30 Rem and .35 Rem. But the .300 is rare around here. Thanks for sharing and showing. Dale

Some guns are so common they get taken for granted. Like my first centerfire rifle, a 1948 Win. 94 in .32 Special. I think it's special alright.
