I think this may be the right forum for post 1968 (deletion of smooth diamond around screw hole) Magna grips, but from the factory serial numbers I am just not at all sure, so Moderators feel free to move if necessary.
First off, both sets of grips came to me on guns with different serial numbers so they were not originally issued by S & W and no one knows how they came to be on these guns, so I'm just trying to reach the widest audience I can of S & W revolver fans and if anyone has a gun whose serial number matches these grips I'd sure be open to getting them to you.
First up: well worn, what appear to be "PC" Magnas. The grips have number 21198 on right panel. They came to be on a Model 64-1, serial: 1D7001, shipped Dec. 1976 per Roy. Checking SCSW 4th 5 digit K frames were 38 Reg Police & Model 32/32 which seems way too early for "non-diamond PC's.
Second pair of non Magna Square Butts came to me on a November 1948 (per Roy) K-22 Masterpiece, serial number K 51403. The right panel grip has both a large letter K, and the number 889147, and the left grip panel just has the large Letter K. The letters "K" and the number is actually stamped in, just like any other factory serial numbers I have seen.
There are no factory service marks on the frames of either gun so they've not been back and of course, like most all of the guns I've traded, bought, sold over the years, somebody changed grips over the years so no big deal.
I'm just curious as to whether these date at all to some specific era gun(s)? that I should now look for.
(Love the hunt), or if someone reading this post may have a gun that matches.(I love long odds).
Any comments or opinions welcomed.
