Some Pretty Unique Game Camera Footage

A buddy and I have about 350 acres of private property we hunt down by State College, PA. Lots of wildlife and privacy.

Not much of a tree climber, I have three ground blinds set up on the property, with a game cam on each blind. They have been set up since mid summer. It is amazing what these cameras will pick up.

This was pretty unusual. A Red Tailed Hawk landed on a log directly in front of one of my cameras, with a still struggling chipmunk in its talons. He proceeded to eat said chipmunk directly on camera. Note my pop up blind in the background.

What I also found unusual was that night, a fork horn whitetail came over to the log, and sniffed & licked it. Exact spot the hawk consumed his kill. The next morning, several does did the same thing.

I'm guessing the chipmunk blood is salty. Deer like to lick salt.

I knew a guy who had semi tame deer hang out in his yard. I actually watched him hand feed a baloney sandwich to a doe. She at it all. Usually he hand fed them carrots and apples.

I’ve watched deer lick a gut pile from a deer I shot the day before. I once double lunged a buck with an arrow. I gave him about 30 min even though I heard him crash. During that 30 min I watched a doe sniff and apparently lick the arrow that was stuck in the ground. She left , came back and eventually left for good. Pretty odd to watch.

PBS once had a whitetail deer special, in which they captured them eating the chicks of ground nesting birds. They said it was the first time that had ever been captured on film.

I guess everybody likes a little protein.

Yep. Everybody, all creatures, large or small, each and every one of us, gotta eat...

So it has been, is, and always will be.
