Food grade diatomaceous earth. A teaspoon rubbed into their fur every few weeks will kill what's on them, you can dust the carpets with it, etc. Friend of mine uses it, works like a charm.

You can also dust your carpets with Epsom Salts, don't know about rubbing it into the fur. I do know it works on carpet.

You can use Sentinel (oral medication), which works by preventing flea eggs from hatching (somehow the little "beak" the larvae uses to gnaw its way out of the egg doesn't form hard enough to break through the shell). Sentinel is also a wormer to prevent heartworm, hookworm and roundworm. It's expensive, though.

Combine that program with a dot of Frontline on the animal once a month to kill the adult fleas.

I use Frontline Plus on my girls. Never see a flea. It can also help to spray your lawn, especially weedy and brushy areas, and damp areas. Triazicide is good for that. A cedar chip dog bed helps. Also vacuum carpets often, and always empty the bag or cylinder after every vacuum in an outside container, or better yet, burn it. Once you have an infestation, it takes awhile and some determination to get rid of them, but it can be done. Then preventing them is a lot easier.

I have been putting a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinigar in my dogs water bowl. I just started doing this a few months ago but have not seen a flea since. I started this to help with bladder infections that one of my dogs was prone to. Have not seen one of those again either.

fleas

a friend of mine bought an old house trailer that the people had several dogs. 2 months later one could walk in it and get covered with fleas. he sprinkled table salt on the floor of every room came back a week later no fleas. i personally saw this.

How do you get the fleas to take the medication???

Ingridents:

5 gallons of gasoline and a book of matches

Directions for use:

sprinkle gasoline on all carpets of infected home, once carpets are saturated, light whole book of matches and throw through open window.

Warnings:

not recommended for use on animals, not to be used by those opposed to being homeless

Comfortis tablets by Eli Lily work from the inside of the dog, out. Lasts for a month. Flea bites dog and DIES w/in 20 minutes. Expensive, from your vet. If you have them outside, you will have to spray and spray and spray. Inside, foggers w/growth regulator hormones kick in after a while (2-3 apps). Only insects are affected, your children will grow up, eventually.. :)

Good luck, some of the other suggested remedies may or may not work. In general, you get what you pay for.

'Advantage' ..we get it from the vet, but I think you can buy it on-line. It's a liquid applied to the skin once a month. A very small amount in a pre-measured disposable vial onto the skin, usually on the back of the neck.

Flees mearly have to come in contact with the fur of the animal to die,,they do not have to bite them to die.

We have used it nearly 15 years and from the start till now have never seen a flee on any one of the dogs or any of the cats we have also. We have never treated any of the cats with anything. Up to three dogs and 7 cats at various times and absolutely no problems.

Before that,,it was misery for the animals and us and nothing seemed to really take care of the little bastards for good. We tried and used everything else available then, and when this stuff hit the market we tried it and stuck with it. Came on the recommendation of a K-9 Officer friend of mine.
