I recall when I first started shaving that trying to use an electric would chafe and razor burn me like crazy. A blade, while it would take salami slices, didn't cause a rash. Well, it's 180 degree's around now? A floating twin blade cartridge razor will carve off lab specimens while I attempt to get as "close" as I once could with an injector safety razor. And my electric (Wahl-extra close foil insert) will actually get closer in most areas than my Gilette Atra will? If you are talking safety razor, try one of the gel shave creams that has Aloe (Edge). If electric, try "Prop" pre-shave on an unwashed dry face. Wouldn't it be great to be able to afford a barber shave each AM?
