As a reloader I like to buy bullets in bulk such as 1,000. For example I buy 115 gr. FMJ 9mm bullets from RMR as they sell them in bags of 1,000. (As aside their bag of 1,000 lay perfectly flat in a 30 Caliber Ammo Can. It will hold 5 bags (5k) meaning picking up the can mostly a fantasy).

Old history is I have JHP bullets I brought bulk in the mid-1990’s as a result of events back them. They have been sitting on a shelf mostly forgotten.
The bad news is they were state of hollow point technology for that era meaning expansion is iffly at best.

So I wondering if anyone sells modern state of the technology JHP bullets in bulk of 1,000 each.

I guess you have to tell us what are you going to use these bullets for, target shooting?, Hunting?, Self defense? It makes a difference. Years ago after monkeying around with different makes of JHP 9MM bullets I finally settled on one for the majority of my shooting needs. That bullet is the Hornady 115 grain HAP bullet. For my general shooting needs I don't need an expanding bullet, but I do need an accurate one and the Hornady HAP bullet is very accurate out of almost all of my numerous 9MM handguns. Better yet is that these bullets are economical and made by a reliable manufacturer. I buy no less than 3,000 at a crack.

I can strongly recommend RMR Bullets,
Rocky Mountain Reloading. Com
They’re good enough for Eley to source their USA centerfire pistol bullets from them.
This weekend they are running a 10% discount.
Prices INCLUDE shipping.
Owner is a member over at “thehighroad”.com under the screen name “longdayjake”.

Others include PrecisionDelta.com, and Everglades bullets.
Also of course Zero Bullets through their RozeDistribution.com web site.

Rich H they will be for self-defense. Where do you buy Hornady HAP bullets in bulk?

J56 I buy my 9mm FMJ from RMR. In fact just received 2,000 115 gr. FMJ this week. Any experience with their JHP bullet?

If you look on their web site, they have pictures of expanded bullets. Looks very similar to top of line Federal and Speer hollow point bullets. I've never recovered any, but they shoot as accurately as any of the RMR bullets. And they are very reasonably priced.

I kinda understand what you're after, I used to do the same. Then I got into casting and shifted towards a concept of practical performance goals for my bulk ammo.
A good coated flat point is excellent for most everything we use the stuff for, and at least adequate in applicable special cases.
The special collection, on the other hand. I'll spend some doll hairs on premium offerings rather than bulk rate compromises.

The photos of the expansion of the RMR Hollow Point is impressive.
Just isn’t much information on reloading data and actual performance. I’ll likely order 1k of them on my next order from RMR.

Choot em lizbeth!

BSA1: I just randomly check the usual places such as Graf and Son's etc. I don't necessarily like signing up for "notifications" but I will on some of the better websites for flash deals on reloading components. Unfortunately I didn't write down where I bought my last 3,000 HAP bullets, but it was pretty cheap cuz I remember dropping what I was doing to order a batch before they sold out. I like a bullet or other components that I can use in more than one application, or for more than one firearm. The HAP bullets do well for me in almost all my 9MM's. Could I find something more accurate? Perhaps, but the HAP's do everything well enough I don't monkey around looking for something else. I think the make a heavier HAP 9MM bullet, but I have never felt a need to try them.

There are some options that work well for handloading, some costing more than others.

1) The 124 gr Sig V-Crown isn't exactly inexpensive at around $140-$150 per 500, but it has a very wide expansion envelope.

At 1350 fps out of my MP5, expansion was superb and penetration was 15" in 10 percent ballistic gel.

At 1015 fps out of a 3.15" Kimber Micro 9 penetration was 18" and expansion was adequate.

At 1100 fps in a 4" barrel it split the difference with 17" and better expansion.

2) The 147gr Xtreme X-Def was an unexpected success in my ballistics testing. Plated hybrid hollow points normally have a very narrow expansion envelope and require loading for a very narrow velocity range to get both adequate expansion and penetration within the 12"-18" window.

I bought them to develop a sub sonic hollow point load for my MP5 and at 1050 fps it gave 14" penetration. Expansion was consistent and very good at around .620".

I shot it in a 4" compact Hi Power to see how it would perform and at 900 fps, it pushed the 18" limit, but still gave very good expansion at around .590".

All in all it's impressive performance for a hollow point bullet that costs about $90 per 500.

3) I also tried bulk boxed Winchester 147 gr hollow points and found they also worked quite well. They achieved 14" penetration at around 1080 fps using the same 5.3 grs of HS-6 in the MP5. Expansion was very good at around .605".

Velocity and penetration in the 4" compact Hi Power were similar to the 147 gr X-def at roughly 900 fps and 18", and expansion was still credible at around .530".
