Does anyone know of someone making Centennial High Horn grips that fit the Pre-40 and early 40/42 Centennial models? I bought a set that I thought would work only to find out the fit is much different than other J-frame grips.

Centennial grips

Be careful when buying grips for the Centennials! NO OTHER J frame grips will fit your Centennial! The Centennials use a much smaller washer on top to align the grips to the frame. Using a larger grip will interfere with the grip safety on the back strap. I don't know of anybody making aftermarket grips for the Centennials.

Thanks for the tip! I actually noticed that myself a couple days ago.

There is, as you found out, a difference between the J-Frame and the Centennial J-Frame. It has been pretty well covered above. In hopes that a visual may help, in the attached picture (if you stare long enough) you will see it.
Left - a set of standard J-Frame grips (Model of 1953 and forward into the Mod. 36, etc.) These are caribou expertly crafted by our own Ken "bigmtnman".
Right - a set of Centennial J-Frame grips in ivory.
