The smallest Roadster that I ever drove was my Buddy Don's Honda S800.
That was in Okinawa and it had the highest RedLine of any car that I ever drove.
One morning I'm with Don and we are headed for the Front Gate of Kadena AB. I was stationed there and Don, a Green Beret was stationed close by.
It was a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the birds were singing.
Not sure exactly what the birds were singing because I don't speak Japanese!
We were on a wide four lane stretch of road with open space on both sides of the road.
There was base housing on the left and open space all the way down to the ocean on the right.
Suddenly, Don veered off the road, stopped and jumped out of the car.
He ran out into the middle of the road yelling and waving his arms.
He's yelling at two women in a full size American car, maybe a Buick.
I get out of the car still trying to figure out exactly what he's up to.
All I could think is, be careful when you let the Army on your Base!
They will just take over!
He's yelling at the women to get out of their car and cone over to our side of the road.
Now he's stopping all cars.
He's large and in charge!
I still haven't come up with anything.
So I look back at the car he stopped.
Now I see a flame coming over the top of the front tire.
It beginning to curl up the fender.
We were sitting so low in that little car that Don could look over and see into the wheel well.
When he first saw the fire it was only in the back of the wheelwell.
But it was already burning under the hood.
The Air Police came, A Fire Truck came and put out the fire.
Don's car looked like this one.
Oops! Grabbed the wrong pic.
This is the one I meant to use.

Didn't the Tiger have a Ford 260 V8? I seem to remember Bond driving one in Dr. No. A girl I knew bought a new Datsun roadster in '67. It was a real shocker, nobody ever saw one before. 1967: Japanese motorcycles, now cars, what could be next.

Small Ford V-8 and a 4-speed. Don't think I ever saw the real thing even when they were produced. The Sunbeam Alpine (was that the name?) seemed to be far more plentiful. I think that was a 4-cylinder. I can't remember how long these cars were built, but seems like mid-'60s range. Others here have better memories and will know.

Yes, very fast little car. I drove one that belonged to a friend back in the last 60s. Almost too much fun on 4 wheels.

You realize your picture shows a Sunbeam Tiger.:) The S800 can be seen here. Honda S800 - Wikipedia

Thanks Steve!
Also had Buds who had Tigers.
Have driven several.
Easy to lose control and spin out.
Had one Buddy who wrecked his just about every time he got it out of the shop.
The Bambino Hondo didn't have quite that much power!
In fact I recently saw Tiger in English Racing Green.
That is a car you might trick me into buying.
I have survived my Stand on It behavior and am aging fairly gracefully, thank you very much!

Over the years I have had a few Tigers through the shop. Back in the early 80s, my brother and I had gone out on a road test in one. Completely stock down to the hubcaps... As we were returning to the shop, we passed the Mitsubishi Dealer. This was back in the era of turbo Cordias and the like. We were stopped at a light, and saw a "saiesman" in the lane next to up pointing and gesturing to his prospect. Clearly he was telling him, "Watch how our powerful Turbo will blow off the old MG"...OK, game on. I let him build a slight lead through first gear, hit second and nailed it. I passed him like he was parked. At the next light, I rolled down my window, and told the chagrined salesman to count the tailpipes next time...

Can't hardly believe it!
Found a pic of my Buddy Don online.
Wish I had a picture of him out in the middle of the road stopping those cars!
