I just recently learned about the Revolver Ammunition Strip Concealment clip by NeoMag, which they call the RASC. I saw one in a photo on reddit and figured I would give it a try, hoping that it would offer a solution than having to dig the speedstrip out from the contents of my pocket.

I carry a 649 in the strong side pocket, and carry various items in the weak side pocket. The RASC is basically a clasp that grabs onto a speedstrip and provides a pocket clip so that it can be hooked onto a pocket like any modern knife.

Thirty bucks and a week later I had a package from NeoMag, including the RASC, a hex wrench, and a hand written thank you note which I thought was a nice touch.

The contents of the package:

Assembly is straight forward, just split the aluminum halves, insert a strip, place the ambidextrous clip on the side that you want it, and screw it down tight.

It adds a light extra length to the reload, coming in at 3oz total with 5 rounds of 125gr 38+P, but its no bigger than the other contents of the pocket. After weight a safariland comp I loader and a 5-star speedloader the RASC/tough strip combo adds less than 0.5 ounces to the overall weight vs a speedloader.

I've been using it for about a week and I really like the feel of carrying it. Its a lot easier to access the reload if I want to. The only downsides are that I prefer to have it as far back laterally in the pocket as possible, which is the position that I normally wear the flashlight. If I put the flashlight ahead of it, then it slows the grab and draw of the speedstrip, so as of now I am still juggling the new order/placement of my EDC gear.

The reason I prefer to carry the RASC at the back of my pocket is the clip is relatively narrow compared to the length of the ammo, so the RASC will twist downwards unless it is pressed up against corner of the pocket. Its not the end of the world if it does angle down a bit, its just something that bugged me a bit.

As far as loading the strip, or reloading the gun... the two rounds closest to the RASC are supported by the back panel, which reduces the flexibility of the strip under the last two rounds. This makes them a little tighter going into the cylinders and adds a fraction more effort to reload vs a naked speedstrip, but given the time saved in retrieving the strip I find that this extra effort required to push two bullets in cylinders is still time saved over all.

Refilling an empty strip is a little tougher too, since the strip doesn't flex as well. I have found that loading the rear (RASC side) of the strip first makes inserting rounds the easiest.

Overall I am very happy with the system so far, and will most likely order a few extra just to have in case of loss or damage to this one. I feel like this new product by NeoMag adds a new and useful tool to my carry gear and I have been very pleased with this purchase.

I never did enjoy the bulk of a round speedloader in my pocket so while faster, they always got left at home in favor of a speedstrip.

A scrap of Talon grip tape, they sell rectangle scraps of it for a few bucks.

There are many compact and small belt pouches for carrying one or two speed strips. Been around for years, protect the ammo extremely well, and are very fast into action.

I can just imagine this clip thing snagging and dumping rounds as you yank it out of your pocket during a gunfight, and throughout your daily life the ammo will be exposed to the sweat and physical bumps of the stuff in your pockets. I can also see someone reaching for their wallet/phone/keys etc. and the loose speed strips flopping around, gets caught up on them and whoops! There goes your ammo as you pay at the cash register etc.

Just seems like a waste of $30 when there are better options. But if you like it, and it works for you, go for it.

When I first found out about them the $30 seem rather high, but the more I thought about it, if I considered it in the same category as a new magazine, then the price is not so bad. Seems like most pistol mags sell in the $30-40 range this days, so it ddidn't seem too far off.

As of yet, I have not dropped any ammo out of the strips, nor has the clip come out of my pocket. But I guess time will tell.

Nice review. I like your taste in pocket knives BTW. Also, great idea with the Talon tape on the backstrap. My 642 sometimes peeks out of my pocket and a black backstrap sure would be less noticeable down in there. A little extra grip welcomed.

Thats exactly why I had to do it. Silver gun carried every day in a black uniform was screaming to be noticed.
