I recently ran across this early Speed-Six in a pawn shop. It was priced right, I didn't hesitate. This gun has a lot going for it for woods carry. It's stout but not too stout. The rounded grips are comfortable to carry, in and out of cars etc..., it's pretty unobtrusive, 4". It shoots 38 special like baby candy. The outdoorsman load in a .357 case, 12 grains of 2400 and 158 SWC- that is a fun plinking load. And the gun is wicked accurate. A hubcap at 25 yards, or a flower pot, real fun.

Looks like a fun rig that can serve a lot of roles! Definitely a good purchase!

Nice rig you have there, OP. It calls to mind a modern day equivalent of an Old West gear-gathering, with trusty SideArm, been-there holster, ammo and kit-case. I imagine somewhere you have a slightly worn gun belt with loops for 6-12 of those Elmer Keith style 38-44 "specials", albeit disguised as 357s!

Thanks for sharing that do-it-all revolver and its friends.

Was not aware some Speed-Six revolvers had hammer spurs. Are Speed-Six guns DA or DAO or... Inquiring minds want to know.:)

P.S. Getting chilly out here; 97 degrees as I type this.

I'm not sure I follow, but this might help. The regular spurred hammer on my Speed Six had both DA and SA notches. The factory spurless (knurled) hammer that's presently installed has both DA and SA notches. I understand that some factory hammers may be DAO, but not mine.

Nice find! :D
I love the Ruger "Six" Series revolvers. I have two Security Sixes myself. Great guns and super strong. You can't hurt these things. ;)
I've always said that the worst mistake Ruger ever made was discontinuing the Six Series revolvers.
