Looking for some info here. Why are there, by my count, 3 or 4 different types of gold dot bullets? Ive loaded alot of them but 99.99% of them are what I call the original gold dot with that big open HP and the little gold dot at the bottom. The worst I think is the polymer filled G2. Then you have the ones that have the very shallow "hollow point" of which at least some are labled Deep Curl but still considered a Gold Dot and others of the same physical description but are labled as Personal Protection bullets.
I bought a 100bx of some 210gr GD Personal Protection bullets with thoughts of loading up for my 696 but Speer has no data for that bullet and that caliber. They do have 200gr GD 44Spl data that I could use probably but do have 210 data for the mag.
What is the history of all of these different GD bullets if anyone knows?

Merry Christmas y'all and Happy New Year!!

I believe doc Roberts wrote a bit about the G2 and its warts. I think it was an experiment and did not do what it was supposed to, but I am guessing that it is 5 years since then and I don't recall the details.

The basic difference among various Gold Dot bullets, in the same caliber, is the depth and/or diameter of the hollow point cavity and bullet weight. This causes the different bullets to give specific expansion characteristics at different velocities.

My understanding is, please correct me anyone, that there were problems with the early run of G2 bullets, namely the cutters which sliced the copper had become dulled causing the rounds to behave exactly like FMC rounds. That has been corrected, and LE Agencies are reporting high satisfaction with current performance.

The G2 round is intended to give better performance through windshields. Officers are routinely shooting at suspects through their own cruiser's windscreen and windows.

I am not the expert, just relaying what I have heard.
Kind Regards,

I recently read an older article describing a Speer HP bullet called the "Flying ash Tray".
