I believe it was intended to be the perfect practice round for the 135gr GDHP Short Barrel, but now appears to be unobtainium. Has it been discontinued by Speer? Does anyone know? That said, what do you use as a practice round for this hard to find Gold Dot?

I've searched for this round, the 135gr TMJ, for years with no luck.

I do most of my practice with PMC 132gr FMJ, with occasional use of Speer Lawman 158gr TMJ +P. To me, the Lawman kicks with a force similar to the 135gr Gold Dot, albeit more of a push than the Gold Dot's snap. Shot-to-shot recovery seems to be about the same, though I've never measured it with a shot timer so I can't say for sure. I haven't noticed a significant difference between these three loads in terms of POI at 10 yards or less. YMMV.

I find the Fed. 130gr FMJ ball to be pretty snappy in terms of recoil. I finish my .38 range sessions with 5-10 CCI Blazer .38 +P 158gr FMJFP which approaches many modern +P loadings.

They are hard to find in stock but not discontinued. For practice I handload replica loads.
