New to the forums here . . .

Rented a 15-22 at my local gun range today. Thing was VERY dirty, and upon opening the receivers for inspection, it had obviously not been cleaned for several hundred rounds.

However . . . I fed about 500 rounds through it, and not one problem :D. I was amazed at how it felt, how it shot, how efficient it was at cycling rounds (even when dirty!), and how accurate it was. I'm fairly new to shooting as I bought my first firearm 4 months ago (GSG 1911), and today was the first time shooting a rifle. Took a while for me to figure out how to sight in the 15-22, but once I got it dialed in, I was shooting ~3-inch groups at 15 yards by the time I left. Unfortunately I didn't save any of my targets, but next time I'll hopefully remember.

I shot an entire bulk pack of CCI AR Tactical, and 100 rounds of some ~30 year old Federals that I got from my dad when he sold me his old Winchester .22 bolt action last week. Not a single FTE, FTF, or otherwise. I must be lucky because I have never experienced any of those with my GSG 1911 either, and I've put over 800 rounds through it as of today. Also shot about 50 rounds through my GSG 1911, and my buddy from work brought his brand new Hk MP5 A5 .22. The Hk seemed like a really solid rifle, and I love how the upper and lower receivers are made of metal, but I can't say it was as accurate as the 15-22, nor would I trust it to be as reliable.

Here's a quick shot I took of what we shot today:

WOW....I have the Umarex MP5 A5 .22LR too. I've been searching high and low for another magazine or two and can't find one anywhere. Do you know of any place to find an additional magazine? Will the GSG magazine fit? I'm sure you had a blast today with those!!!

Not sure if the GSG mags will fit the Hk guns, but it does get me curious. I'm glad to see a lot of manufacturers jump on the "tacticool" .22 scene; it really is a great way to introduce yourself to a tactical AR style firearm by only paying pennies on the dollar for the rifle and ammo. Now its a tough choice narrowing down which one to buy with so many models coming out this year. The MP 15-22 was definitely fun to shoot, and my range report this weekend shows it can go well beyond 500 rounds before needing a cleaning. I have a feeling that once I grab one, the bug will hit and it'll be an endless hunt for accessories. :p

I'm anxious to see more reliability reports of the new crop of Umarex .22 guns, but for now the MP 15-22 is definitely at the top of my list, with a very close 2nd to the SIG 522, pending trigger time if I can find a rental.
