when my dad got out of the army from WW2 he still wasn't 21. so in order for him and my mother's dad to go pheasant hunting her dad had to order a shotgun from the Spiegel catalog. it was a Stevens 620 and she said it cost $40. I see there is anew Spiegel's but I haven't been able to find anything on the internet about a Spiegel catalog from the late 1940's. is there any place else to look for that old of a catalog?

the Stevens 620 is a decent shotgun but it is heavy and not much fun to carry for any period of time.

Din't like catalogs in the out house. Pages were slick and the ink rubbed off. My Mom always removed the pitchurs of the women's underwear section before she took it out there.:D
Catalog pages was like John Wayne.. They din't take "stuff" off of nobody.:(

I ain't seen a Speigel catalog since we got an indoor terlet in 1949.
One time after we moved into the new house, the terlet got plugged up. My Grand dad was there and sed that's what you git for crappin' in the house.:D

Barely remember Speigels.
There were also Montgomery Wards and Penny’s.
But the Catalog King as least for me was Sears.
My first shotgun and sheath knife are from there.

When I was 19 (1963), I had a job hauling mail between rural post offices. One of the post offices was in the corner of a mom & pop grocery store, like Ike Godsey's store on the Waltons. I used to hate it when Christmas came around, we would haul waist high canvas sacks of J.C Penney, Sears & Montgomery Ward Christmas catalogs. The sacks weighed as much as I did at that time.

Looked around a bit on the web for catalog references to that era, but the only thing I saw was an archive with a fee wall, that couldn't be searched beforehand.

Never crossed paths with the catalog myself, except for game show announcers proclaiming the sponsor "From the Spiegel catalog, Chicago Illinois 60609".
