Thanks. It's not often you see color photographs of this quality that were taken taken during the war. I never noticed how much a Spitfire with a tropical radiator looks like a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk.
 
I'm sure many are already aware, but the U.S. flew lots of Spitfires early in our involvement in the war, both in North Africa and Western Europe, in a 'reverse lend-lease' arrangement. The recon version of the later Spits could fly all the way from England to Berlin and back.

Gorgeous, very effective airplane (or aeroplane :)), and it got most of the press. Meanwhile the Hurricane was doing great work with less attention.

The RAF very definitely needed the contributions of both fighters for Britain to survive.

But Lord, the Spit was pretty!.
