Been getting some info that the new ones are 6R. Still melonited right? Thinking on a second but not sure if I like the new 8 twist.

The new barrels are traditional rifling and are no longer 1:8 twist. They are now 1:9 twist.

How are these rumors even out there. It clearly states on the S&W website that the Sport is a 1/9 twist and it's been that way for almost a year now. I don't get it.

I believe at the price point S&W is trying to sell Sport, they found the 1/8 Melonite to expensive to keep. I also think the new 1/9's are chromed lined and not Melonite treated.
I have an older model MOE w/ the 1/9 chromed lined barrel and I am very happy with mine.

S&W support stated that the production process for the 1:8 twist barrel was too lengthy, so they changed barrels eliminate the backlog and shorten the delivery interval. I am surprised that they didn't switch to their standard production 1:9, chrome lined barrel, but the Sport barrel is still Melonite treated.

Might be what it says on the website. But you can still find the orginal 1in8 5R in many LGS. Esp. if the LGS favors the other MSR's over the S&W brand.
