Spray on rubber for better grip

Anybody use a spray on rubber for a better grip on your gun ? The neighbor cleans out houses and found a whole case of black matte Plasti dip. I'm think of trying it on my gun, I got it for free so ?

Also the stuff is suppose to peel off with no harm to whatever you put it on. Heck they paint whole cars with it. I had a Houge grip on it which I liked but it would never stay put no matter what I did to it short of actually gluing it on.

I personally have never seen any of that "stuff" last a long time.
Temp fluxes causes it to soften and harden over time and degrade. (winter/summer)....and it become hard and brittle.

Just get some Talons.....

Talons, Houge sleeve, inner tube, or rubber bands work.
Wouldn't want to have to try to remove 'FlexSeal' if it didn't work out or a buyer didn't want it on.

It's not Flex Seal, it's called Plasti Dip, originally used for garage hand tools but comes in a spray now.

I've heard talons come off, glue isn't very good ? Talon's have mixed reviews because of this. What's your opinion and how long have you had them on your gun ?

I have had Talons on every handgun I ever owned and they have never come off. That list includes Glocks, Rugers, and Shields. HOWEVER: There are some who do not know how to properly install Talons...they don't follow the directions or something or don't take the time to properly clean the grip prior to application and don't take the time to properly apply the heat treatment after placement.

"FlexSeal", in this instance was used euphemistically to cover all liquid traction products.

Some friends and my brother use the Hogues with success.

In hot weather I use "shrink tube and a heat gun. Easy to put on and remove. I have used guns with the Talons. The rubberized ones felt fine but the sand paper ones were not comfy at all.

OK OK I know it's not rubber but I bought a 5 yard roll of 3M Outdoor Tread (skateboard tape). I kept the backing off of my last decal grip set and use it as a template to cut out additional sets as the others get worn. It doesn't come off until I peel it off, leaves no residue and doesn't add any discernible thickness to the grip. I use it on all of my Glocks that I compete with. To me it is only mildly abrasive to my hand and I have never had my gun to slip in my hand no matter how sweaty. Its a good bit more comfortable to my hand than my brother's SW MP 2.0

I know guys that have used Plasti-Dip on hand tools. It didn't hold up well.

You can buy rubber electrical splicing tape at Home Depot or Lowes that works well (my experience anyway). It's not the black PVC electrical tape, like Scotch 33+, most people are familiar with. It's self bonding and made from a synthetic rubber. Makes a decent grip.

It looks good, but not durable AT ALL. I tried some on my motorcycle and just by washing the bike with a sponge it started to peel off. I would imagine it wouldn't hold up well on a gun, especially if any bore cleaner got on it. If you do try it be sure to degrease the heck out of the parts you spray it on.

Yes PREPERATION is the biggest problem people don't follow directions. I use to wax floors for a living and I KNOW PREP. IS THE BIGGEST THING. I'll spray my grip with this stuff and see how it holds up just for the heck of it.

Update, ended up spraying 9 coats on whole gun frame, why ? Would I recommend spraying whole frame, NO. Holster wear big time, I have a leather holster, but the grip is holding up well and feels great, so far. If you rub it over and over it gets sticky kind of, then eventually starts to peel, especially from holster wear.

Only time will tell, followed instructions on a certain well known car site for this stuff. Personally for everyday carry I would not advise this stuff but a house gun, sure.

I once tried Plasti Dip on the polymer forearms on an AK. Looked great, but peeled right off.
