I have a 1950 vintage Pre 27 with a spring loaded hammer nose. I wasn't aware that this feature was incorporated in design this early in production. Any knowlege on this or might the hammer be a replacement using a later design feature?

Pre-27 hammer nose

I have a 1954 pre-27 and it has the spring loaded hammer nose. Memory serving, so does my 1938 vintage 38/44 Heavy Duty as does my 1952 vintage 38/44 Outsdoorsman.

My 1954 .357 and 1955 Outdoorsman both have the spring-loaded hammer nose, but my ca. 1937 D.A. .45 does not. I would expect any N-Frame of that period, except possibly/probably the .357 Magnum, to be consistent in either having the spring or not. But, who knows??

All the N-frames I have seen had the hammer nose spring whereas the K-frames didn't seem to have one until the L-frames ("M" mod) came out.

My '52 Pre-27 has a free-floater. No spring.
