Took my recently purchased 439 to the range today and it shot as good as I can hold em. 10 rounds one hole at 10 yards.

3 shot group with Speer 124gr +P Gold Dots into less than 2 inches at 20 yds offhand.

Just dialed that rear sight in. The single action is especially light and crisp;it's a nice shooter.

After looking at the Brownell's catalog I was surprised at the lack of full size 39 series parts and magazines?

I want to get an extra recoil spring to handle the +ps described above. While the +Ps will be SD ammo and used sparingly I do like that ammo.

I only live 20 miles from ATK where they are made. And I enjoy the proximity that allows me to use many of their products.

And I need a couple of new magazines as one I have feeds correctly but sticks and won't fall free without help. Where is the best source for these items? Please!

Most of the small parts do fit between the 439/459/3906/5906 guns. Wolff does make a spring kit which includes all the springs. Mags are one of the harder things to pick up, S&W or MidwayUSA list them. By the time you find used and maybe replace the spring and follower you would probably be as well off to buy new.

Thanks Handgunner 356: I've gone the used route before on 1911 mags and you're right. It's penny wise and pound foolish.

I'll get over to Midway and see what they have.

Ref the 124 Speers, they had a little more rock to them than the 115 Blazers I was shooting; do you think an extra power recoil spring is the way to go to keep from battering the Aluminum frame on this 39?

If so what weight?

I usually stay with the stock 14# in those guns, but Wolff does offer a 16# and more. If you do go to the heavier spring check to see how far it is ejecting your brass. I like to see 6-8' as a max, if further then I usually go to a heavier spring. The recoil spring is a balance, you can batter things closing to. If my standard loads are ejecting properly then I don't mind if a few hot ones go a little further. On your mags you'll probably only find the newer 3906 9rd stainless ones with the plastic basepad. If you want blue you will have to go used.

Appreciate the input on the damage caused by closing. Always worry about slide velocity to rear didn't consider it's return to battery.

I ordered a 16# Wolff. I'll see how much distance I get with that.

Midway was out of Smith magazines so I ordered a Pro Mag for $22.50 we'll see how it works.

Stainless mags are great I'll have to see if S&W has any if the pro mag doesn't perform as promised.

Appreciate your replies, I've always been a 1911 or Sig shooter except for short dalliances with the Smith family. This new to me 439 shoots as nice, in single action, as any SIG shooting single action that I've owned over the years.

You might try cheaperthandirt.com for mags...I got a 9-rounder for a 639/3906 (stainless) and it's a tad long (not enough to matter to me) but it works fine in my Model 39-2.
