Square vs rounded trigger guards?

On those Smith model that have both square and rounded trigger guards, did the squares come first? Also does the presence of one or the other affect price/value?

I believe square came first. As far as price, I would pay a little more for the rounded trigger guard, but that's just me. I doubt if it really has a lot of impact. Overall condition is much more important.
 
It depends on which gen you're asking about. Second gens had the round trigger guards first, for a short period of time, then switched to square. Third gens started with square, then switched to round....

Good info! I knew it went that way on the 3rd Gens but
did not know it was the opposite on the 2nd Gens.
 
On second gen's, round came first, then square in about 1985. Not sure about 3rd gen's.
