Squirrels in the attic.

We've had critters in the attic in the past and I always try to make sure all potential entrances are blocked but we have a LOT of roof and a lot of trees within jumping distance to the roof for squirrels. We've nicknamed it "squirrel highway". I sit out and do my best with my pellet gun but it's not sufficient.

I've used bait and repellent, found skeletons, and last year I had a company put traps as they were above my home office. It's a REAL difficult place to get to and they trapped nothing after 3-4 weeks. To be fair, I had already tossed in a lot of Cayenne pepper before calling the pest Company. I think we just "waited them out" they had their "children" and moved out until ..... TODAY.

As I feared, they are back in the same place, above my office playing soccer!

I know they're not supposed to work on squirrels but I just ordered a VICTOR® ULTRA PESTCHASER
Victor(R) Ultra Pestchaser(R) | Our Best Electronic Rodent Repellent

I can get to the corner of the area and point it down over my office ceiling which extends up to between the floor of the second story and it's ceiling.

Anyone have any luck with sonic devices and squirrels? From what I've read, I'm guessing I'll be calling the pest Company again by next Monday :)

I hate them tree rats. Keep shooting them, but they reproduce faster than anything.
And it seems the offspring are born knowing when I open the kitchen door it's time to scramble up the trees.
Only killed 9 so far. Going to buy a better pellet gun soon. The Daisy Power Line 880 is lacking in killing range. Makes them do the death jump at 50 feet, anything further not so much.

...eat 'em...

Use pellets in that 880, that's what dropped the guy in the photo from about 30 feet.

Have your trees trimmed that's the first step in critter control. It's not cheap but it worked for Me and the Wife. Then check all your over hangs and all other points of entry roof vents and such. We had a raccoon one time and for the life of me he was a pain in the neck. One day he died of lead poisoning rolled off the peck of the house and into the gutter. Put him in the recycling can problem solved.

Just ordered Crossman Destroyer .177 pellets.
These should do the job. They expand more than double their diameter in tissue.
Right now I am using Daisey .177 Precision Max pointed and they work good but am running low.
Hello mail man.... Adios tree rats.

We had a bad squirrels-in-the-attic problem about 10 years ago. We called in a guy who specialized in squirrel removal. He carefully examined our roof and eaves, and sealed any holes he found with lead. He sealed all but one of our attic vents (we have mushroom-style vents) with heavy-duty chicken wire. The remaining vent, he left open to allow the squirrels to come and go, but he also wrapped it with a low-voltage shock grid, so that every time they went through their one entrance/exit, they'd get zapped. In a week or so, they'd completely abandoned our attic. He returned to remove his shock grid, and wrapped the remaining vent in chicken wire. Our attic has been squirrel-free ever since. It cost about $400, but it was worth it to get a permanent cure without having any dead squirrels rotting away in remote corners of the attic.

Same problem here, I put a party strobe light in the attic, so far seems to be working. They either left or decided to party down and are all drunk and passed out. At any rate I don't hear them doing the Indy 500 up there any more. Got it on Amazon, pretty cheap too.

We had problems with squirrels in the wall space next to our chimney for years. Though I checked, and checked, and checked, we never could discover how they were getting in and out of this area. Then one day, the wife saw one crawling in under the siding. The little varmints had chewed away the Styrofoam insulation between the siding and the wall, and had a nice fist sized entrance and exit hole. We tried the sonic repellent and it did absolutely nothing. Tried to block the entrance with steel wool and smeared the wall below their entrance with Vaseline without any luck. Finally, we got a live trap, baited it with pecans, and over a few month period, caught 4 out of a family of 5 squirrels (I shot one out of a tree with my Diana Model 34 .177 air rifle) and relocated them far from the house. Save the money from the sonic repellent and get a Havaheart trap and some pecans to answer your squirrel problem.

Good luck,

Dave
