Some of the cheap SS pins will rust because they don’t have enough chrome in them. That is low quality SS. Just keep an eye on them. I store the ones I bought from Sinclair just as you describe.

Thanks I really don't want to go through the hassle of drying pins. The Frankford manual says dry them but it also says if they start to rust just tumble them. I am going to give the wet storage a try. Don

I just pour them back in the tumbling barrel and let it sit for a few days with the lid off to dry out. Mine have never rusted.

I have even put the lid back on and did not use them for a couple of weeks. When the lid came off, the pins were still moist, but they did not rust.

SW CQB 45,

Give StainlessTumblingMedia.com a look for your media $10 per 5 pounds cheaper than your link.

They have complete set ups also.

You might also try Shop.Guntap.com looks like $33 for 5 pounds there.

My pins are wet in the tumbler, NO RUST.
My pins are also MAGNETIC STAINLESS, for retrieving loose or spilled ones.

That's what I do too, that way they are there in the barrel when I want to tumble again.

I have had my Frankford tumbler for about 6 months and run about 20 loads of brass. Store the pins in the tumbler wet with no problems. Just use a 5 gallon bucket with a paint strainer, and the frankford media separator on top.
After agitating the cases most of the pins are in the bucket, dump the cases on a towel to dry and lift the stainer out and all the pins. If you want to have dry pins just lay the stainer sock outside on a towel. I just dump it back in the tumbler. Haven't had any rust issues with storing the pins in the tumbler with a bit of water.
Also bought pins from Bullseye Reloading for about the same price, 35/5 lbs or 65/10 lbs w/ free shippjng.

I've had stainless steel flatware corrode when left in tap water.
Was bored and left some in a closed container of tap water.
The water is not the problem, the chlorine is.
If you leave it open overnight, the chlorine should evaporate.

Thanks everyone I am not going to worry about them I am just leaving them wet.
I picked up a jug of Turtle Wax Wash and Wax today and got my citric acid in the mail ready to do a second batch. Not sure how much acid powder to put in the tumbler probably will start with a teaspoon full.

You only need about enough citric acid to fill a 40 S&W cartridge. I use an old Tussin cough medicine dispenser. Pour in enough Citric Acid to just cover the bottom of the dispenser. They are also handy for measuring out the soap.

9MM case full of Lemi-Shine is enough with a gallon of water,
too much can be detrimental to the brass, use COLD WATER for the same reason with citric acid.

We are on a well so I guess I don't have to worry about the chlorine! But never had any rust problems with the pins.

Works great doesn't it? I rinse them and let them dry in the bottom of the shake out bucket. A couple of tips for getting loose pins out of the bottleneck brass...after you shake out the pins toss a small magnet in the tumbler and roll it for about 1 min. Gathers up the stragglers. If you polish them in a vibratory after the wet tumbling throw the magnet in. It often gets the last straggler.
