LOL... Yeah... They tried the 'Liability Insurance' scam as an amendment to the TX Open Carry Bills. It got read, got told it was ridiculous and immediately got voted down.

"ObamaCare for Gun Owners" (HR2546)

Where did this come from? According to Chris Cox, this bill would give the Feds a laundry list of your firearms and require you to purchase Federal liability insurance or face a $10k fine - I assume per firearm. Anyone know more about it?

No Staniz, Have Not.......

The normal sources that usually send alerts for the New War Against Gun Ownership have not sent anything this way but I'll post any information as soon as it reaches here. Hope others will do the same.

Introduced by Carolyn Maloney, Representative for New York's 12th congressional district. Quote.

“An insurance requirement would allow the free market to encourage cautious behavior and help save lives,” she said. “Adequate liability coverage would also ensure that the victims of gun violence are fairly compensated when crimes or accidents occur."

During her illustrious career in the House the lawyers pacts and associations have contributed over $1,000,000 to her reelection fund. Insurance associations have contributed over $500,000. Hard to believe she would sponsor a bill like this with all the honest and trustworthy friends she has at the law firms and insurance companies.

Yeah, a guy at work today tried to tell me that President Obama signed it into law today!
I figured he was full of it - but we still have to always be vigilant. The anti-2nd crowd wants to attack our rights from every direction they can come up with...

One of The Usual Suspects will soon be along to
tell us that this is just the usual NRA fear-mongering,
That there is actually little reason to believe that
such a bill would actually pass, and that NRA is just
stirring the pot in order to enhance fund-raising
efforts. What they fail to consider is that the reason
such bills stand no chance is that lawmakers legitimately
fear the wrath of NRA. NRA has piles of money,
donated in increments from small to large, and NRA isn't
shy about spending lavishly to punish anti-gun
legislators and reward those who vote pro-gun.

One must remember that the main purpose of insurance is to protect somebody against loss, which could be either the policy holder or someone other than the policy holder, e.g., someone injured in a car wreck not his fault. How would this fit? Who would be paid off for a gun owner's negligence? And under what circumstances? I don't think any private insurance company would ever write such a policy, as it would be a nightmare for them.

When I saw this thread I thought it must be a mis-spelling. I assumed this was from Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, not Maloney, but I was wrong. McCarthy was a tireless supporter of draconian gun control but has either retired or soon will from Congress. I guess NY has a plethora of "Carolyns" who are anti-gun and seek to limit our 2nd Amendment rights. (Carolyn McCarthy's husband was killed, and adult son wounded by Colin Ferguson on a NY commuter train, using a handgun that he possessed illegally and only being stopped after several reloadings as he walked up and down the aisle of the commuter rail car. Somehow Rep. McCarthy continued to think that although Ferguson broke many laws that day, that further laws would prevent such tragedies rather than realizing that maybe the solution would have been to allow honest citizens to carry firearms for their own defense. It is unlikely that Ferguson could have killed 9 and wounded 19 had any or several of the other passengers on the train had the ability to defend against him.)
