State sales tax on online purchases

I ask, "Do you want your city to keep streets repaired? Lights on? Stores open for available purchases? Police and Fire available when needed?

Since the realization that you can buy over the internet and never leave your chair, the city and states have been losing money needed to keep all this going. No, I don't like it either, but be realistic, if the cities and states don't get your tax $$$, your Real Estate taxes are going to climb.

My argument is not about collecting sales tax!

My argument is that the tax that is supposedly being collected does not go to the State! But rather is being kept by the retailer as additional profit.

Thus the streets, schools etc do not receive the money which is being collected for those services.

There needs to be a method of accounting for tax being collected and does it really go to the State.

It's coming, digital currency.

CBDC Central Bank Digital Currency.

Your money is not your money, it will be "held" by the bank, you do not actually own any of it.
They will dole it out to you if it meets their criteria.
This has been proposed and is in the works, no tin foil stuff, find out for yourself.

I did some before selling some stuff on GB last year. I was required to fill out forms and reimburse the States involved when my collections of the respective taxes exceeded $1000. Up to that it's just considered a hobby.
If your being ticked about sales tax, try to figure why they get away with charging it on a used motor vehicle that the tax was previously paid on.

Both NZ and Australia have a Goods and Services Tax (GST). Buying overseas (think Amazon) avoided this tax. It added freight (which ain't cheap to Down Under) but overall prices were still lower than buying local.

A few years ago Australia, followed by N Z, bought in the Amazon tax, whereby Amazon and other on-line international retailers had to charge, collect and pay the GST to the government concerned.

And the on-line retailers fell into line, even though it cost them profits to comply over and above the GST levels.

Oh, and it used to be that NZ didn't collect any GST on overseas purchases under NZ$400. Now it collects on the first and every dollar.

i've actually talked with some state tax people. They don't consider that tax to be a sales tax...It is a new titling tax every time someone buys the car and wants to tag it... Still wrong...IMO. If I sell my un-needed stuff in this state either at a gun show or a yard sale I am supposed to collect state sales tax and submit it to the state. Tax has already been collected at least once. Even in states that don't collect sales tax...there has been taxes paid many times. Consider ...inventory taxes are borne by the end purchaser...just another collection of tax for the powers that be to...waste

My understanding is that a business has to have a presence in your State to collect taxes even if you order from them online.

Otherwise, it's your responsibility as an honest citizen to report these purchases at tax time. LOL!

There isn't a way for the private individual to do it in Nevada as far as I can see. They are to set up to collect tax on cars bought out of state. They send you a bill after initial registration in the state.

Every time I order out-of-state mdse, the order form is already set up to compute sales tax depending on your zip code. No escaping it. The order will not go through w/o it.

What was the tax rate when our founders dumped the tea?

Just wait for the new digital currency and see what happens with the tax rate.
