Have a question for shooters here that use steel case 7.62x39. What is the cleanest, most accurate, and tending to hottest (not powder puff loads),non corrosive steel case I can find ? I shoot a AR and the best I can find with 3 of my 4 desired items is Czech which is corrosive of course but otherwise perfect. I use a LMT bolt and have never had any light primer hits so I don`t feel that`s a problem. I guess what I`m saying is if I "have to" clean the rifle after several hundred rounds I`d probably stay with the Czech. Any thoughts/suggestions ?

Thanks, John

I've found little difference between all the brands I've been able to fire.

I still have a case or so of Norinco 7.62x39. It's not imported here anymore, but it's the cat's meow if you can find any.

I used to spend quite a bit of time messing around with many AK-47 type platforms. I ran across a great deal on Wolf Military Classic "Mil-Spec" 124gr. hp ammuntion years ago. It is non-corrosive berdan primed and of course steel cased. I could not argue with the price and bought thousands of rounds and went through thousands of rounds, I have an ample supply hoarded away. I never had one single problem with all of the thousands of rounds I fired, I did have problems with some of the other Russian stuff and Chinese mil-surp but never one problem with the Military Classic. It came in 20rnd boxes with a camo print, if you can find any of that stuff I'd highly recommend it.

Some are cleaner then others but you'll only see a difference if you shoot like 5 rounds. After a few hundred rounds I really don't see a difference between any of them, including US brass case ammo.

GT is clean(er), not powder puff and nome corrosive.

Where are you getting all this Czech surplus ammo?

I chronograph just about everything that I shoot. The fastest 7.62
ammo that I have found was some of the early Tula Russian ammo
with the green lacquered cases and red primer sealant. Some lots
chronographed at about 100 fps faster than typical velocities from my
AKs and SKSs. For example about 2475 fps compared to 2340 fps with
good Norinco ammo.

I agree with the other members. For such an inexpensive cartridges (Wolf, Bear, Tula, etc.) they seem remarkably consistent and reliable. Brass case Norinco, Russian surplus, and other Easter bloc surplus 7.62x39 looks a bit nicer or more premium than the steel case more modern stuff but in reality I cannot say it functions significantly any better.

i don't matter to the AK which is the "cleanest"... this is coming from someone that doesn't clean guns much if at all however. most anything you put in an AK will do what it needs to do. that said, the early Tula seems to be better than most for accuracy. but bear, tiger, wolf etc. all seem about as dirty as the next. my 2 cents...

Thanks Guys,
I generally clean my AR every third time to the range. I lucked into Dillon reloading equipment that works with my 550 and I had bought a large amount of bulk Hornady bullets back in the day and those and AA1680 shoot well and clean. On the 3rd trip I shoot the corrosive and clean it well after that. I`m on my last case of the Czech ammo which I got out of Florida. It seems to me that I have seen it advertised at SGammo in the last few months although I haven`t gotten any lately and was wondering which of the steel cased is best.

Thanks Again, John

That's not Czech ammo if you're seeing it on SGAMMO. That's surplus Yugoslav ammo

If it looks like this it's Yugoslav

To Arik and All,
Thanks for correcting me. I got my Slavic countries confused. It is indeed Yugoslav M67 ammo that I have. Tin can within wood case,40 rounds to a brown box and in 10 round stripper clips. My error aside, I consider it pretty good if not great ammo; just wish it wasn`t corrosive.

Thanks, John

What you have is the SKS packaged version

That ammo is great. I have a large stash of it. Sportsman guide has 900 rounds for $266, even better when you get free shipping

Sgammo usually has the royal tiger which I have found shoots pretty well out of my chinese sks. Some shooters like the yugo stuff although is is corrosive. Frank

Golden Tiger.

7.62x39

Well, tried first batch of steel case that I found which happened to be Tulammo and it didn`t work so well. Seemed under-powered. Short-stroked the bolt...wouldn`t go back enough to pick up the next round. I guess my next trip out I`m looking for Golden Tiger or Wolf. More later.
Happy New Year to all !

7.62X39

Using it in my AR. Never a problem cycling with brass case ammo...well actually I did when it was new but drilled out the gas port with a 5/64th bit( it was obstructed slightly) and runs great ever since...with my reloads,US factory ammo, and the Yugo ammo. That is a period of 5-6 years now.
