Been shooting steel for a lot of years...FAR more fun than paper.

Three years back started shooting LR precision rifle at our club. Informal stuff from 600 to 1260 yds, all on steel targets.

This past summer helped my neighbor build a covered benchrest area and we have steel plates out to 510 yds. Lots of fun trying to hit a 3" or 4" plate at 300-450 yds. We run far more small targets than we do, easy to hit, large ones.

I have both 1/4" and 3/8" in the AR-500...sizes 5",8" and 10" round.Everything was fine until my shooting buddy started nailing the 1/4" at 100yds with some 5.56 rds.

After that incident I only put up the 3/8" targets.I've used them for 22LR at 100yds and you can still hear a ping.No more chance of mistakes being made.

I was at a friends house, he has a 1/10 scale ram at 50 or so yards, at the bottom of a ravine. From the deck, I shot 3 times with a 22 Hornet. It appeared I couldn't hit a barn if I was in it! 2 weeks later, the owner discovered a nice one inch group of 3 holes clear through his ram. I offered to replace it, he thought it made a good point on under rated old things. Just because it is rated for 44 mag doesn't mean it will stop a 22 Hornet! Ivan
