Does anyone use Steinel Snub Pro .38 Special +P? How does it compare to Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo? Just recently learned about the Snub Pro ammo.

Never heard of this Company. Not saying it's bad - but for SD/HD I'd go with a product time proven and street proven. WHY would you want to risk life to an unknown factor?

The Buffalo Bore 158 grain +P LSWCHP-GC (#20B/20) at 1,040 fps. out of a 2" snubby is very serious medicine! My actual chronograph tests at my Range were over 1025 fps from my M60-7 2" revolver. IMHO it's one of the very best in the 38 Spl. category. Yes - you will pay the price with recoil and it's expensive enough that you will not be using it for informal target shooting, but for its intended purpose I don't know of anything better if you can deal with the heavy recoil out of a J Frame.

The second choice would be the Speer 135 grain Gold Dot HP +P. While not as hot, not as fast and not as heavy, it still seems to have a great track record. The recoil is not as heavy as the BB load either. those would be my SD/HD choices in 38 Spl. I know absolutely nothing about the new load from Steinel.

My experience with Steinel has been positive, but that's limited to personal use of their 9mm Largo, and Ian's (Gun Jesus) use of their 7.5 French Longue. They list a lot of old, obscure calibers like that and 8mm Nambu, and price it not too much higher than generic shelf 9mm parabellum options.

I would expect this to be a good load.
