I'm putting this out here for opinions on this matter. I cannot give details other than what I put here. Yes, it's weird...but so is the case.

For the past few weeks, we have been working to find out what a strange, noxious smell that periodically shows up in an office building. As this building is being remodeled, such things can be usually explained off. The smell is so bad it literally shuts down elevators and makes people dry heave and tear up. I have a very strong constitution and it got to me.

Last night, a hardly unexpected clue showed up in the form of two sloppily disposed of stink bomb boxes...one had a crushed ampule that had reminants of the smell.

Currently, it is "being researched" and I'll leave it at that, we do have a motive and it is NOT to be playing a harmless prank. In the current enviroment, could this not be considered felony criminal mischief? I'm not looking for any legal advice on this, this is just merely to settle a debate between myself and my collegues.

Thanks!

If made people sick maybe some sort of assault charge. Just have to check your local statutes.

With the way they throw charges around nowdays, there is no telling what charges would apply.

Hope they don't end up at GITMO!!!!!!

Was it a rotten egg--sulfur type odor?....could be Mercaptan. They use it to odorize natural gas. I remember awhile back there was an incident where it was dropped into a city sewer and caused a panic...

Hard to know really. Depends on laws in your state, whether the DA wants to mess around with the case, who did it, why, whether anyone was hurt etc. In general... prisons are pretty full up so I wouldn't expect whoever was doing it to do any real time.

Various places sell all sorts of stink capsules and bombs for "revenge", pranks, etc.

The whole thing just "wreaks". It downright "stinks" that someone could do this. Can't the perp avoid being "foul"? I'd seriously consider keeping my "nose" out of the whole affair. Some people are "rotten"!! This guy sounds absolutely ob"noxious"!!!! I sure hope you can get on the "scent" trail and catch him!!

Like I said earlier, there's more to the story than what I can put here. Suffice to say this IS NOT being done as a harmless prank...there are other things involved here.

I will not describe the odor here for several reasons...mostly due to the case and second it is a family forum.

Thanks to all of you who responded!

I would think that in most states a Criminal Mischief charge could be filed.

At the very least a Disturbing the Peace charge would be in order.

If your building is being remodeled...

There is an older style pipe insulation that is notorious for pranks. It is black, hard, foam. When crushed it releases a sulfur, rotten egg smell.
My best was taping a small piece of it to the back of the foreman's center desk drawer. So every time he pushed his desk closed, it got crushed a lil', the smell was triggered. He was not amused.

Of course, this was before the religion of peace attacked us and made every smell a terrorist attsck...
