Hi, I am new to S&W 3rd generation pistols having just aquired a 6906 last month. I purchased/received another set of the stock, plastic wrap around grips that were listed as having been removed from a 6906. I was unable to install them on my pistol because they seem too narrow. Upon closer inspection, the checkering on the back strap seems narrower than on the grips currently on the gun. My question is were there different width factory grips for the single and double stack 3rd generation pistols? Thanks in advance for y'alls help.

Yes. A grip from a double stack gun will not fit a single stack and a grip from a single stack will not fit a double.

4506,4566,4563,4505 will all interchange
4006,4003,5906,5903 will all interchange

Those are just a few examples

Thanks - I guess I will post these grips for sale in the Classified section.

The frame widths at the grip area vary between the single stacks and the double stacks. Single 9mm will be roughly .740" where the doubles will be 1.00. The .40 S&W single will be .790 where the doubles will be 1.00. .45's are single stacks .790". See a pattern there. I put a set of Hogues for a 4513/4516 on a 4013 single stack.
