My main area of interest is post war revolvers and would like some info on stocks in the 1961-80 era.

When was the transition from black to silver washers?

When did S&W discontinue stamping the s/n on the right stock? I have a 1978 Model 28 with the original Magna's that is not stamped and a 1980 Model 15 with the last 4 digits of the s/n stamped on the right stock.

Silver circle inserts (stainless) were used on stainless guns since the introduction of the Model 60 in 1965. Nickel and blued guns had blued circle inserts.

In 1973, S&W standardized on stainless circle inserts across the board. They used up parts on hand and I've seen a blued gun with numbered stocks and blued circle inserts that shipped in 1975.
