If it is in good condition and it is what you really want the price is about right. However, I have never cared for the SKS rifles at all.

Don't get me wrong, the one I owned and the other ones I have shot were solid rifles and good shooters, but I did not like the way the magazines loaded. It just seemed awkward to me. However, for a low cost semi-auto rifle they will get the job done, but just be ready to do more practice, especially in reloading and changing the magazines, with this gun than with an AK-47 or an AR-15.

That one has been bubba'd so it is worth $200-250 to me if it has a good bore. To the person that put on the craptastic plastic stock and the big magazine it is usually worth $550-600. That $400 is actually lower than the usual offer price. Take your pick. Be aware that if the scope rail is essentially a new dust cover, they can have problems holding zero depending on the way it is attached.

Of all the SKS makes the Chinese ones are considered the most accurate. A decent Chinese SKS in the ORIGINAL stock is a $350 rifle to me, but they are selling for that an more right now. Probably explains why I don't have one. Mind you, I picked up a mint Russian refurb for about $275 a while back so I'm not panicking.

Like everything else since December 2012, SKS prices increased dramatically. The old days of picking $100 cosmoline gems from the SKS crate are long gone. Still, original SKS rifles present a solid value in today's market of black gun madness.

I picked up two mint Chinese SKSs during the mania; one 1959 vintage, the other 1980s. Each cost me $650 OTD ... a huge increase over previous prices, but still an exceptional value against everything else. Both rifles shoot 7.62-39 without a problem, are low maintenance, and continue to represent quality. Now that the mania has died down, SKS prices should drop from their highs, and settle in to a manageable level. After December, I saw Russian SKS rifles tagged at $995, and Yugos at $800 ... they all sold. Now, those rifles should be tagged at half what they went for.

The rifle shown is indeed a Bubba job. How good or bad is difficult to discern from the picture, but I'd say Bubba tried to make his SKS into an AK paratrooper clone, and destroyed any real practical value in the process. I wouldn't drop $400 on that slop job, no way now how, simply because a VG - VG+ example of an SKS could be found with some looking for $400-500. As LVSteve said, a couple hundred bucks max, and that's only if I could inspect the rifle first.

I like SKS's but only with there original "furniture" That's what makes them nice, the wood!

Those Tapco or whatever kits are nice and perhaps make the gun easier to shot and folding stock is nice, probably lighter in weight. So for a truck gun or blaster it's OK. Heck the kit is over $100.

I put one on a AK as I like to shoulder a rifle, but I have all the original wood parts.

Price is not bad, depends if YOU like it.

EXACTLY what Steve said. Bubba'd SKS with junk stock and a junkier aftermarket mag.

Good bore tops $250… TOPS!

for $400 he can sell it to a mall ninja

I agree with the general consensus here. I have owned several SKS rifles both Chinese and Russian original. The Russian laminated stocks looked pretty nice and the finish on both was pretty good for military grade rifles. Left unbuggered the early ones were pretty nice. If you like to load with stripper clips it's no biggie. I would stay away from a Bubba'd gun. Someone has tried to AK an SKS and it's usually like the committee designing a camel. It may hold water, but looks like hell. Just my opinion and worth what it costs.

Unless under all the bubba work its a Norinco that takes AK mags...

Model D I think it is?

Everyone already nailed this ...

I don't buy COMMUNIST guns. They have killed a number of my friends and took a Few shots at me.

You are so right! I dont buy ARs they killed over 20 kids in Newtown CT and all those movie goers in Aurora Co.. The AR also forced tge Beltway sniper to kill or maybe it did it all on its own while Malvo slept. I dont buy German/Austrian guns, they killed at least 50 million people. All those Mausers and Lugers and HI Powers and Shmisers killed people in the concentration camps. No wait they guarded while those evil ovens and showers did tge killings. Ive heard that some Germans carried S&W revolvers in WW2. Thats it Im selling my...clearly S&W is a fascist company

Both Colombine shooters carried Savage shotguns. Scratch Savage of the list. Clearly the shotgun did some of this killing. What did that Charles Whitman guy use in Taxes in 1966? A Remington 700 killed 17 and wounded 11

 oh wait it wasnt the guns it was THE PEOPLE. Your excuse is the same the anti gun people use. IT'S THE GUN RIGHT!

Do you think those COMMUNIST FIGHTERS cared if they used AKs, SKSs or Garands to do the killings?

Also, i dont remember the OP asking "who buys communist guns"

Someone took a $350 SKS and made a $250 SKS out of it. For $400 it would have to come with all the original, now removed furniture and at least 500 rounds of 7.62X39.

With all that bubba **** on it it's probably a jamomatic now and the seller wants to try his bubbafying magic on another.

The good thing about it is bubba just made my all numbers matching, original like Mao intended for them to be Chinese SKS worth a few cents more. ;)

Geeze! No kidding! I knew guys that used AK's here and there. They ran into other guys on the other side of the fence armed with M-16's and M-2 carbines. Where the hell did they come from and how did they get them? Well, actually, they bought them from corrupt ARVN. Go figure. I guess they were more concerned with the trigger pullers than what they used, but, I could be wrong.
