For the past two years there has been ZERO .22LR ammo available anywhere in my area. A couple gun shops have had sporadic CCI ammo at $6.99 per 50. I work two jobs and do not have the luxury of hanging out at Wal-mart to wait for the meager shipments they get. I have visited local Dick's and Cabelas in the next state with no luck for over a year. I checked online several times and saw nothing for the past year. I just happened to be on the Cabelas site today and saw BRICKS available for $29.99!!!! With a $15 coupon, that made a brick $15

I ordered one and have my fingers crossed and hope it actually ships. I won't believe it until I see the UPS package.

This ammo is mainly for my grandkids to enjoy. I bought my granddaughter a new Savage Rascal 15 months ago and this is my FIRST .22 ammo purchase since getting the rifle for her. The sales clerk let me have 100 rounds when I bought the rifle out of a private "stash" in the back room for gun buyers.

I have a new suppressor and .22 Walther pistol where I need some sub-sonic ammo to make it run completely quiet. I figure that may be another year's wait to find.

My advice to you old-timers that enjoy going into a bricks and mortar store and spending cash: Start shopping online and cross your fingers. You MIGHT finally get lucky.

I hate buying stuff online unless absolutely necessary. There's no better feeling than going to a store, looking around and plopping some merchandise on the counter and being able to interact with the sales staff. A LOCAL store owner is able to meet payroll every week because of that kind of buyer.

With close supervision and rationing, I can make that one brick last 6 weekends when the grandkids come to visit

Cabelas has ship store on internet. If I see something on site, I buy it and send to store nearest me. Has never been additional charges.
1 Dick's has .22 every time I go. Limit 2. Federal /Eagle 40 ct. 2/$5.00. Bob

It was Remington 36gr bricks. No other info. Beggars can't be choosers.

There are two local Dick's. They have plenty of ammo except .22 You are VERY lucky if you can walk into a Dick's and just take .22 ammo off the shelf and pay.

Cabelas is about 90 minutes away in SC and has been open 7 months now. I have NEVER seen any .22 ammo there. The clerks tell me it was there in limited supplies a day or two ago. Always the same sad story. It's $30 gas money and three hours drive time to go there and back.

No exaggeration. I have spent over $150 driving the past year LOOKING for ammo with zero results. Thus the title of this thread. As of now, I will pay whatever the internet sellers want and NOT spend my money locally.

Thanks. I will try them. The nearest one is also 90 minutes away, directly across the street from Cabela's in Greenville SC.

Now that I am retired I buy all my ammo on line. No problems. I can sit out front in my rocking chair like Annie Oakley and stand guard. The rocking chair is great exercise!! I don't spend time and money driving around for just few measly rounds and take a chance at encountering some road rage idiot.

I find .22 ammo from $24.00 to $50.00 per brick here in metro Atlanta, at random times. We have a home in Clayton, GA and go there most weekends. If you were closer I could try to set aside a few for you when I run across more of the less expensive kind. I have two bricks of Federal and four boxes of Remington sub-sonics for a friend in Franklin, NC to deliver Wednesday.

If you look online, I am sure you can find Eley match ammo on most sites.

I give you all the credit in the world in venturing out to online shopping. I too do not have a moment of time to hunt out ammo at wal mart, dicks or anywhere. Good job sir.

I've been lucky I guess when it comes to picking up .22 ammo. I've got a local Dicks that seems to always have something in stock, be it the 40ct Federal, 500ct golden's or 1400ct bucket o bullets. The folks selling at the gun show seem to have a lot as well, although they are at insane $$$$. A 500ct thunderbolt was $50 at the show on Saturday, but I hit Dicks this morning and picked up the same thing for $24.99. I've ordered plenty of reloading supplies via the web, so goodness only know the postman hates me enough as it is. For the price of shipping, I like to make it as cost effective as possible.

Another thing to be aware of, as we get closer to Christmas.... there are more package bandits out there trying to get something for nothing. Track your stuff well and enjoy the fruits of your shopping!

I stopped looking for .22 ammo in the stores and online. Online seem like every time I see it listed and go there it's sold out. I also won't spend the big bucks to have a 50 round box shipped from Cabelas. I don't get to wally World much any more, don't want to waste the time for nothing but when I do get there and they have any I will pick it up. I just gave up on it till it makes a come back. If not I have plenty of others to shoot including .177 and .22 pellet guns. There is always ammo there for pellet guns, and center fire is on the shelves all the time.

Gunbot.net is my go to. If you register you can set thr price point you're willing to pay per round. A quick scroll through will show you're selections as high lighted. I then look for ammo I prefer, at the price I'm willing to pay. Currently I have about 1,500 rounds of .22, the same in .357 mag and about 2,500 rounds of 38 spl. All purchased on line. Some vendors have higher shipping prices, some run bulk discounts. Gunbot often steers me to LAX ammo and I really like their house loads for target.

Picked up 500 Rem Goldies for $29 earlier today from Cabelas.com. Just checked, they are still available; order $20 more of something else & get free shipping.

Those are the fellas standing in line at Wal Mart and everywhere else. Buy retail and sell insane. I refuse to consider buying .22 ammo at a gun show.

I have been fortunate lately. Happened to be near a Farm & Fleet, Gander and a small local gun shop and made a stop. Found .22 at all but only bought at one and only a couple hundred round boxes of CCI. I am not one who feels the need to have a large cache of .22's but perhaps I will sing a different tune if I run out and want to make a range trip. We shall see.

Oh, and looking over the guns for sale at Gander and the local gun shop was an added bonus of course.
