I've been using a Hyve Technologies extended magazine release for my M&P 9mm with no problems for about a year with stock/factory S&W 10 round/17 round magazines.
During freedom week I picked up a single 32 Round Magazine from Promag.
Took it to the range on two separate trips with no issues.
On 4th of July I went to the range with it and started having double feeds, stovepipes, feeding issues. I removed the magazine, cleared it out and reloaded it into the gun. After finishing all 32 rounds from the magazine, I pressed the mag release button but discovered the magazine to be completely locked into the gun with no way to get it out.
I couldn't believe it. I pressed and pressed on the magazine release button and the magazine wouldn't come out even with force. I gave it to a range safety officer to look at and he still had no luck getting the magazine out.
Upon further inspection and taking it to a local gun shop, it appears as if the magazine release button's steel retaining pin that holds the mag in place is out of spec and is at a complete 90 degree angle to the magazine. No matter how hard I press on the magazine button, It will not allow 2 mm more of travel to clear the magazine. I tried using an allen key to try to bend the release button pin out of the way but it won't budge since it's made of stainless steel and very strong.
The gun shop was not able to get the magazine out either and I'm completely stuck with an out of omission gun. I know I may be able to call S&W but the parts causing the issue are aftermarket (Promag/Hyve Technologies). It could be the mag out of spec but I believe it's the release button that's not correct.
Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the Valley (818) area of Los Angeles that can help me out? I'm willing to travel anywhere near Glendale/Burbank/Pasadena/Van Nuys/Pacoima etc... but they must have weekend or evening weekday hours that fit my schedule.
I looked up Dean Wilkerson gunsmithing in Van Nuys but he's only open during the time I have to be at work. He's not open on weekends either.
Does anyone here have an idea on how to get it out? I'm willing to pay anyone local $10 just to remove the magazine as long as the frame of the gun isn't damaged. I will go back to the stock magazine release as soon as I get it out. The slide has been removed from the frame and it's completely safe.
