Having quit shooting my revolvers, I had about 6lbs of Trail Boss left over and wondered what to do with it all. Then I came across an old file on the laptop about using 3.6 gr for starting load in .222 but I could not remember bullet weight. So, I used their formula of 70% of powder used to fill case to bottom of seated bullet for minimum starting point which is 2.85gr of powder for the 204 case and I used a 32gr JHPFB bullet.

Then I put one round in my TC Contender with a 14" barrel by M&M and fired the gun at a steel target 25 yards away. If I hadn't seen the bullet hit and splatter, I would have check to see if it was stuck in barrel, I did have my MM ears on. However. I don't have a coronagraph to check speed with and I'm going by seat of pants guess compared to the 800fps ammo from Mexico, that I use to use in my Mossberg 18" carbine.

Case had carbon burn on one side for about 1/2" from mouth of case. I think it was caused by too light of a charge to expand the case neck as it would normally. So, the next try will be 5gr and hopefully that will have enough pressure. I'm trying to get into the 1000fps to 1200fps range to be able to use it on steel w/o blowing a hole thru the steel at 4000fps and ruining my steel targets at 25 & 40 yards.

I had the barrel threaded for rimfire suppressor when bought new for possible use with reduced regular powder charges with my 22WMR suppressor hopefully. But never got around to trying it and I doubt it would have worked due to so little powder used. So here I am.

Sorry, I can't help you with .222 or the .204.

If you shoot the 45-70 you can use that Trail Boss with cast or soft lead bullets.

The 5gr load worked perfect without the suppressor, however with suppressor it had a small amount of carbon from back pressure.

I guess that either I need to increase the load about 1/4 to 1/2 grain or our use two different loads. Decisions, decisions!

I have an old MAC-10 suppressor I use with any cartridge less than .355" dia. and smaller than a 308Win. I get buildup in my baffles! Tear it down and put them in a sonic parts cleaner. I never mess with an accurate subsonic load, too much went into developing it!

Sorry that I can't help you out.........
those rounds and the .17 cal. were something that I did not bother to pick up in my days of buying rifles, when young and money, free.

However I do have a "Big" 22-250 , that I take out to the grass lands, ever now and then.

I have used ultra sonic cleaner on my Suppressor's for years and they had just been cleaned and had no carbon on them. Not looking for accuracy load and gun is only bore sighted to the 25 yard target. I'm just wanting a quite load for suppressor.

Seem's like it's not doable without going supersonic. I guess I'll take the lowest load that opens throat of case enough to seal the chamber. I guess I'm stuck with the 5gr load or less and no suppressor. Now to try it on a 10mm or 38 Super at some point.

If you are going supersonic, go ahead and go full out! Any good silencer will "absorb" the explosion noise, you will still have the supersonic "Crack", however, on my 223 the crack was equal to a High Velocity 22 Long Rifle!

Each load requires a different "Tuning" of the silencer and has a different POI!

I use neoprene crush washers and 55grain ammo is 1/4 turn from full set. 65 grain is 1 1/2 turns.

What surprised me was the crack when going supersonic due to small diameter caliber bullet from 14" barrel. But my deck where I shoot from is roofed and has a 30' long section of the house on my left side all ths acts like a megaphone. Full bore 4100FPS ammo and this pistol is too much for my jet engine muffs and ear plugs combined.

Seem's I'm looking for something that's not obtainable w/o crimping or going too fast. I guess I'll just be louder than I want and scare all our critters into hiding. It's not like I'll be shooting it every day.
