These guys show stock on their coated bullets. I've used some in the past and thought they were quite consistent. They have some kind of notice about USPS taking forever to ship, but at least they seem to have product.

Casting is a good option if you can find lead. If you have to buy it, it's as much as buying already cast bullets.

Now, about those primers ...

I ordered two different orders of 1000 124 gr. 9mm from Dillon. It took about 30 days per order. Then I was cleaning up a box from the move 5 years ago and found several thousand cast bullets I made to sell in the mid 90's. For 45's and 38's I've been using patriot bullets/patriot casting in Columbus, Ohio. (I Bought about 25k 200gr RNFP 45 and 4k 200 RNFP 44-40 several years ago) but I talked to Mike, 2 weeks ago, he is having no problems keeping up with orders.

People always like to "Borrow" but never return to my stash, so I just give them Patriot's name now!

I always had great service from Bear Creek, in Northern California, but someone I recommended them to, said the were basically worthless now.

I try to keep a thousand or 2 of the jacketed bullets I use on the shelf, and pick them up on sale (I just opened my last 1000 Win FMJ from the 25k I bought in 1984, so I'll be keeping my eyes open for a sale!) I do powder and primers the same. (now is too late to stock up!)

my last order came from bayou bullets
and......I buy from a LGS that carries a local caster product

I usually make an order every November at Bayou for 9mm and 45.

Rocky Mountain Reloading has some stock right now. I just placed an order for 200gr 10mm. Everybody seems to be running 3 to 6 weeks behind on orders.

I just checked the Xtreme website 2 days ago with the same result. 7-10 days BEFORE they take any new orders. Everything gone. I didn't need anything, just checking the site. I could go back to lead, if that's what it comes to. I have new bullet molds and some lead. Right now I'm just weathering the storm. :(

I called in an order for 9mm jacketed bullets from Precision Delta.
Took 1 month but they arrived this week.

In 9mm I shoot Zero Bullets (from Roze Distributing). They've been out for a while. Not sure if they're taking orders.

Right now Bayou Bullets (which I also shoot a lot of) says they have about a 4 week wait. This is quite accurate. I received an order recently and it shipped almost 4 weeks to the day from when I placed the order.

So.....at least with bullets.....they can be found if you can wait a little bit.....and there are places that will take orders although the wait is much longer than usual. Certainly a lot better than on the primer side - where "nothing" can be found and it's also hard to find places that will take orders (at least from what I've seen).

ORDERS

Have two separate orders in -- paid for and ship in 3/4 weeks. This is why I have kept up my supply down through the years--- dont have to wait to load when I need to. :)

This storm is going to stick around for a long time.
Well into next summer at least.

Questions

1. Which brand of molds do you recommend?
2. Do you recommend powder coating?
3. Are cast bullets bad for the guns in any way?

I have a good supply of lead and a DO-IT Lead melting pot. I have made a lot of jigs and sinkers. New to reloading but have a Dillon XL750 and plan on loading .357 in the beginning.

I get my bullets from out of my molds. There is never a shortage of what I want.

I have a half dozen or so vendors bookmarked and when I need bullets I start checking them every day, sometimes more than once. Eventually I find what I want and order right away. Prices are scary but if you want it you'll pay for it.

I've been lucky so far in that my LGS has been able to supply me with primers when I want them. Sometimes I have to take magnums as that's all they have and prices are up, but at least I can get them. I'm slowly building a stockpile.

Have to use lead

I have about 500 .9mm lead to use until I can get plated bought them a few years ago but never used them because I had a good supply of plated,
Now im glad I bought them

Some time back my late father and I started accumulating a backlog of swaged or cast bullets in 38 and 45 for the target loads we were then using. A couple of my shooting buddies who have quit or slowed down on their loading contributed a couple of thousand more including some in 32. These on hand, along with a fair number of cast bullets I've added and even a few from my friend "beagle" put me at enough bullets to reload for at least a year or two without melting a single ingot of lead... but I have a couple of drawers full of moulds and about a half ton of lead if needed.

My one regret in all of this is that Hornady discontinued all of their swaged bullets in 32 caliber.... that will probably be the first size I have to start casting again. ;(

After reading the original post, I reached out to Xtreme Bullets since I have an order that they are processing. They actually do have bullets in stock, but they removed the inventory from their pages to stop incoming orders so that they can catch up on existing orders.

At the moment, I am loading long held jacketed bullets and casting what I need for practice and local matches. I cast virtually all of the handgun bullets that I shoot, but purchase my rifle bullets.
