New to the forum. Been shopping for a usable quality 4013tsw. This collector claims its from a chp trade in but theres no chp control number in the frame. Any ideas if it could be legit?

And whats the most i should pay for fair quality. Has lots of dents and dings and scratches. Just need it for concealed carry.

The simple solution is call S&W customer service, give them the serial number, and ask if it was sent to the CHP.

I have a non-CHP serialized gun and a few people tried to tell me it wasn't a CHP gun. I called customer service who verified it was.

Just from the pics, it looks to have the CHP specs. Is it a de-cock only and no safety (de-cock lever springs back to fire position). Also the wear looks very similar to mine.

Can't comment on price. I know the standard CHP 4006TSW sells for around $500.

Thank you soo much! I called and they verified that it is. Now i have to decide if things get expensive if i should buy the 4013tsw or a 5906 which ive been wanting as well. Both are for sale from the same collector.

I wasn't aware that the CHP also bought the later railed 4013TSW.

Mine is the pre-rail version.

The only mechanical difference from my commerical version 4013TSW pre-rail is that it does not have the trigger play spring installed from the factory.

Normal decocker.

That is NOT a CHP 4013. 1. It doesn’t have the control numbers on the barrel, slide, frame. 2. CHP didn’t have rails or the spring decocker on the 4013. 3. All 500 serial numbers started with MSF. Personally would not own one, were known for frame cracking

Thanks all. I ended up buying the 4013tsw for $425. The 5906 sold for $600 which was more than i wanted to spend anyways. Cant wait to pick it up in about a week.

Not sure how you can argue with S&W confirming that the serial number was ordered by and delivered to chp and the year...

I have both CHP pistols , 4013TSW and a 4006TSW . When Summit first started selling these I jumped on it and got one of each . Both of mine are in very good shape .

On a side note , I see he finally sold the business . Too bad , he was a great guy and knew his S&W's .

1. I am a CHP gunsmith and I know what we had. 2. It is either a mistake or a lie, and it’s not the first time they have done that

I would be much more inclined to believe "The Viking" (adrianolsen) than most of the current crop of CS reps at S&W when it comes to 3rd gen pistols.

I hear you out but I know how things go at depts. Not all dept property/guns get serialized because they get missed, ppl in charge get promoted.. etc.
Detectives and brass order personalized guns that dont go the normal routes of checks and balances. Either way im thrilled to be putting this one back into patrol as a bug and offduty carry. Tired of only having 5 rounds with my 642 revolver.

Either way OP, Good catch! My 4013TSW was picked up here in VA and has no relationship AFAIK to the CHP. Mine is excellent except for some anodizing wear on the checkered front strap. Just today I picked a VG condition FS 4006. All I need now is a 4003 :)

I acquired both the 4013TSW and the CHP 4006 from Summit, although not at the same time. I had been watching a 3913LS that he had on his site, but when I called him he had sold it already. I knew he had those 4013TSW's as well, so I consoled myself by ordering one of those. It has turned out to be one of my favorite 3rd gens and is probably the last one I'd let go, although I don't plan on selling any of them.

I have both the railed and non-railed versions of the 4013. The second one has control numbers and the non-sprung trigger. I still can't decide which one I like more. They are perfect little guns that feel great in the hand.

Where should I check for the frame cracking and what causes it? Thank you for any info you can give.

Not in our dept.ALL guns are bought in bulk , inventoried, and inspected . Any ofc. That buys their own is not a departmental gun. Nothing gets by our property control person

On a side note. Any recommendations for a holster? Are these comfortavle with an iwb holster or better off with an external holster with a shirt over it?
