Well, a 29-2 is a far reach from a 22 Compact. I think the Compact is a fine choice and enjoy shooting mine. Plenty accurate and eats all ammo. You can put the threaded adaptor on it and shoot it suppressed.

A M&P 22 Compact will serve you well. I really enjoy mine. It feels good in the hand, is plenty accurate for what it is, and is not ammo picky.

I'll jump on the bandwagon here and also recommend the m&p 22 compact. I use mine unsuppressed to get in a bunch of cheap left hand practice a couple times a year to rebuild my muscle memory. It is also my primary 22 pistol suppressor host and it is tremendous cheap fun that is not ammo sensitive at all.

I had a Compact 22 and put 1k rounds thru it with zero ammo issues. Didnt matter what brand ammo I fed it. Easy to shoot and handle, a good overall gun. That said, I was more accurate with my Buckmark and Victory 22’s so the Compact often found itself left at home. And in time was sold.
I can still recommend it, I’m just not one who hangs on to something I don't frequently use.

If your primary use will be target shooting, I would get a Victory 22. But if your intended use is for something else, then go for it.

I have had one for a few years and enjoy shooting it. The gun is reasonably accurate but harder to shoot well than larger 22s. On the other hand it is the most reliable 22 handgun I have ever owned when fed a wide variety of ammo.

In most ways it is the exact opposite of my S&W 41. The 41 was expensive and it's heavy, is extremely finicky about what ammo it will reliably shoot but is very easy to shoot well. The 22 Compact was inexpensive, hasn't met any ammo it doesn't like and is lightweight but is hard to shoot well. There is room in my safe for both. If you are not looking to shoot bottle caps at 12 yards the 22 Compact is a good choice.

My Compact is a reliable plinker but when I want to shoot accurately, I take a real target pistol.

A Victor, K22, or M41 would be more like it.

ok, I'll go and search for a mp 22 , just needed to be sure it was ok. to get one .
yes i had a very nice like new victor high standard i sold for $1800
couldn't pass up that offer and let it go.
so i miss having a 22 . my fave is still my 1911 gold cup and the 29-2 but ammo is pricey. thanks everyone for all the replies.

Just a note that the Victory 22 I/we mentioned is actually within $40 or so of the Compact 22 for base models anyway. If that helps any when comparing.

I’ll give a two thumbs up on the M&P compact. when I go the range with it I never want to put it down.
It shoots everything I feed through it and never had a flaw of any kind.I must also mention the ergonomics are great for me and it weighs less than a pound. Take down is Breeze for cleaning.
Buy it with confidence!

I agree with buckshotshorty on my S&W M&P .22LR Compact. I’ve just never had any problem with mine and it’s fun to shoot.
