Might as well buy the other one too right? :)

Well I do have a question. Can you load and safely fire a .500 Linebaugh or a .500 Wyoming Express round in a SW500?

Also is there a .50 round that is light like the .45 Colt is for the 460?

There are 500 Specials out there which work in the 500 S&W, but I'm not sure about the Linebaugh or Wyoming Express rounds as I'm not familiar with them. All of my loads for my two 500s are fairly 'warm'. I like it that way, I think if I pulled the trigger of one of those and it didn't come roaring back I'd think there was something seriously wrong. :)

The Linebaugh is a larger bore, something like .510, you CANNOT shoot that in the S&W 500 Mag. Don't know the bore diameter of the .50 Wyoming.

As was said, why bother? You can download the full length 500 Mag case to giant .38 Special loads with Trail Boss powder or you can buy 500 Specials from a couple sources. There are also reduced power commercial loads on 500 Mag brass. Makes life much simpler and more importantly, safer. Don

According to S&W no.

From their manual:

Never mix ammunition.
• Additional ammunition calibers can be fired from the
following list of select calibers.
Caliber on Barrel Can also Fire
.500 S&W MAG .500 Special

I was *this* close to picking up a .500,but the lack of ammo that wasn't in "let's shoot Godzilla" turf made me back off,the .460 is better in that I can shove .45 Colt,.454 Casull,or go nucking futz and lite off full power .460's if I want :D

But I still may grab a .500 at some point...I have it bad for big cals in small packages.

I like the four inch .500 BTW :D

While you lose a fair amount of velocity compared to the long barreled models and the sight radius is shorter, the 4" 500 Mag has a very well balanced feel in the hand.

Of course, I'm hardly an unbiased source, I like all of the 500 Mags. Don

I like the 4 incher too. In fact that's the one I'm contemplating. I already own the 460V and LOVE it. From mild to wild, the 460 V can do it all.

To me I like that I can shove .45 Colt in it and plink or I can load either Casull rounds in it or .460 and shake the range with it. It has become one of my most cherished pistols.

That's why I asked. The wiki had no information on the .500 Linebaugh which was disappointing because they usually have very good data on types of rounds.

I noticed the WE round was only a few mm difference between the .500 S&W Magnum round in case diameter and the WE round. However, mm's matter sometimes when it comes to safety so I asked before I might have done something stupid.

if you reload you can make em hot or not.....lots of fun with a BIG bang!

Well as I have often said, I don't have the room to put in reloading equipment.

I don't exactly live in a "man friendly environment". So the minute I make room for the equipment is the minute the unholy outburst of anger starts. I need to move...

@.460Fan I have a 460 ES in other words the 2 3/4 SNUB nosed .460! I actually haven't shot any .460's yet but I will get some in the next few weeks,I have shot some 300gr .454's and that is getting into "handful" turf~but I love it! :D

I have a feeling the .460 shells will be like setting off a flash bang at night.

Cabelas had some 500 mag ammo from HSM for $30 per 20; resonable price and not brutal to shoot. Save the brass and reload them to your practice preference.

It is cool to recover the bullet from a 500... I shot 20 rounds at the range at about 25 yards. The bullets made a trench from their point of impact with the ground to the 45 yard mound and I was able to recover a few. They were fully expanded and suprisingly largely still intact.

Love that big bang!

I'll put it this way. My Desert Eagle .44 mag, everyone feels the overpressure but me.

My 460V with .460 rounds in it, everyone AND me feels the overpressure and it sounds like somebody blew something up. lol

I love my 460V It's a wild ride. :)
