Like the title says, I am interested in learning more about it. Life is pretty busy right now but I am considering joining in the next few years. What are your thoughts and experiences?

I've been a member for about 5 years. The annual meetings are a unique experience. We went to Columbus, OH.

Access to the SWCA side is useful. The knowledge and wisdom about all things S&W is amazing. For information about pre-1980 guns, nothing is better. The members willingly provide information, history, and knowledge about all S&W firearms. The 2017 Symposium is in Charlotte, NC and 2018 is in Reno, NV.

I have been a member of the S&WCA since the early 80's. Some of my best and longest friendships have been with fellow members. I have seen and handled guns that most folks only read about. Before the internet and this Forum, the S&WCA was the best place to meet others interested in the same models or history of S&W as you collect. I have read comments about some members being snobs but I have found just the opposite, it doesn't matter what you collect, how deep your pockets, what you do or where you come from, all that matters is your passion for all things S&W.

The Journal is published 4 times a year with some great articles contributed by our members. The annual meeting travels around the country which has been a great excuse for me and my family to see some great areas. Next year we will be in Charlotte, NC and than Reno in 2018. My wife enjoys the annual meetings and has made friends from all areas of the USA.

A great group of folks, great guns and displays, and a number of regional shows and get together at gun shows like Tulsa. I have truly enjoyed being a part of the S&WCA!

Like Bob, I have been a member since the 80's. I bought my first gun, a S&W model 27-2 on October 30, 1971. Luckily my brother in law that started me going to gun shows and helped me get my first license to carry in Massachusetts was a lover of Smith and Wesson. The rest as they say is history.

To the casual gun collector or the person that is not truly interested in Smith and Wesson's, the S&WCA is probably a waste of time. If however, you are really interested in Smith and Wesson's and learning all that you can about the company and the guns they produce or have produced, there is no better organization on the face of the planet.

As Bob stated, we are not snobs and many of us don't have millions of dollars to spend on our collections. By the same token, like any organization, we do have folks with lots of disposable income that can drop $10,000 or $20,000 on a gun they want and still be able to pay the rent.

Regardless of which end of the spectrum one is on, I have never found anyone in the organization that I could not talk to about S&W's and always felt like I was treated like an equal even by those that know more about S&W's than all the books ever written.

The choice is yours. :D

Why wait? :) Even if you're too busy to attend the annual symposiums the other benefits are well worth the annual membership cost.

As a voracious reader, the Journals alone are worth the annual dues, everything else can be considered bonuses. In these Journals you will find information regarding all aspects of everything and anything Smith & Wesson you'll never find anywhere else.

Best thing I ever did!

I haven't been a member for very long (#2715)...I was sponsored by JCElect ("Mr. Presentation Case Guy"...It is one of the best things I have ever done...My wife and I really enjoy going to the Symposiums...I have made so many friends from this organization...there is a WEALTH of knowledge here and all the members I have met are willing to share it...I encourage you to join...you will be very glad you did!...Roger
