It was AWFUL! What little they had started at $30 and went up to $65. Small to intermediated rifle ammo. Didn't even look at pistols. Very few primers that I could use and they were $8-9/100 one box limit.

I was at a main st. small town LGS and noticed .22 in stock. Asked for LR Std. Velocity. Dealer puts a box of 50 Winchester down. $14.95.!!! Needless to say it didn't go for a ride. No wonder the was still ammo in stock. Sorry, I won't shoot my Combat Magnum B4 I'll pay .30 cent a round.

If you listen to people on here if you find a box of 50 .22 for $15 or 20 9mm for $60.......... oh things are better, it's getting back to normal. See it's on the shelves.

I dropped by Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday morning.

Opposite experience.

They had about 100 boxes of 9mm on the "goodies table" where they put whatever came in this week.

I bought two boxes of Federal AE -- 50 rnds of 147gr fmj practice ammo. About $25 per box. High but not extreme.

My 3913 shoots low with 115 and 124 so I wanted to try 147.

They also had a lot of 10 round boxes of 00 buck 12 gauge so I got a couple boxes of those also for $14 each. Again, high but not ridiculous.

Also there were a few boxes of practice 44 mag ammo, but I didn't need that.

Cabela's is OUT of ammo... except for weird things like 28 gau.

Same here. 28 and 10 gauge everywhere. If I could find the guns, I'd buy one of each. :D

I did find a new Beretta A400 explor at Walmart for $250 less than what Sportsman's Warehouse is selling them for, so I bought it. What's more, while doing the paperwork for the shotgun, a gal put a bunch of 100 ct boxes of Winchester 12 gauge on the shelf at $23 each. I grabbed 3 of those too. I got home and realized I forgot to get milk. :D

I haven't been in a gun shop of any kind in over a year and a half, and, from what I can tell, I haven't missed anything. I don't even look on the auction sites anymore. I must be getting OLD because I don't miss it. When I get 'the urge', I just open my safe and enjoy what I have on display.

As Always, IMHO,
J.

I stopped by a local ammo store that has recently popped up in the foyer of an oilfield service company. They have everything on Earth in stock, but there's a good reason for that. 9mm at over $1/round. Steel cased 7.62x39 at .75/round. 5.56 or .223 at over $1/round. Powder, primers, and bullets in stock as well at equally ridiculous prices.

No thanks.

Similar pricing at the smaller gunshops. Academy has lower prices, but with a limit of 2 boxes per customer. They have twenty or thirty people lined up every morning at opening to snag what little came in the night before. There's a large local gunshop / indoor range that matches Academy pricing. They have limits, too, but they are slightly more generous than Academy at two boxes per caliber - sometimes raised to 5 for certain calibers depending on how much they have in stock.
