Synthetic grip splitting on 686+

Hello! My 686 came with the default synthetic grips (not the Hogue ones), and I like them because they cover the backstrap. However, the grips are starting to split across the backstrap seam (see attached picture). If I run my finger along the seam, they separate and open up even more.

1.) Is there any way to fix this?
2.) Should I try taking them off and bending them back into shape?
3.) Should I glue them or something?
4.) Should I replace them (this is my conceal carry firearm)?
5.) If I do need to take them off, is the 3/32 hex screw the proper tool to remove the side grip screw?
6.) Any idea as to why this is happening?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

probably goes without saying but if you are going to try and glue them , take them off to do it . no offense , kenny :)

You might try removing the grips and refitting to backstrap. Otherwise, you probably need a new set of grips --Kind of like replacing worn out tires.

Over the years, I've worn out 5 or 6 sets of 500 X frame Houges on different M69s, 329s, and 629s protecting the bone at the base of my thumb. Some rubber/syn just wear differently.

You can't take them off to glue them because they are two piece grips, not that I would even consider trying to glue two piece grips together. If you take them off and reinstall and they still don't come together tight then call S&W, I'm sure they will replace them for you. Or just order a different set. Leave the glue in the tube.

Yeow!
