I sure hope it's dark enough to see it. We are pretty far away but if it's clear and dark it is a sight to behold. Nothing like being up close in person as I was many years ago but still something amazing.

Why not? They reload that sucker a lot of times and it's the biggest Magnum you will ever see.

(plus I don't get out much, it's scary in those other forums)

Good responce OCD1!

I'm also up in NE FL and hope to get to see the launch from a distance. Been to the Cape a few times to watch them from much closer. Nothing compares to the sight and sound of a reloadable, shuttle launch.

Well except maybe one of the old Saturn launches. Many, many years ago, I got to watch from the causeway the last night launch of a Saturn moon mission. Will never forget that spectacle!

I was in Florida last Wed evening and we were hoping to see it go up. Probably won't be able to see it tonite from Illinois.

Discovery is safely in orbit at 20:15 and this thread is safely in the Lounge.

From what I have heard, it's pretty tough around here.

Good thing we tidied up.

Anyway, with the sun almost down but at a good angle and the cloud backdrop it was one of the best launches we have seen from very far away. Great view of the entire smoke trail and could see the booster rockets fail off and drift downward as the reflection of the sun bounced off.

Almost as impressive is when they land in Florida and you get to hear the double sonic boom across the entire State.

Watched it from my front sidewalk.. as the crow flies were about 55 miles from the Cape.. it was one of the most spectacular launches I've seen in 15 years.. The time of launch.. the angle and the sun hitting the contrail was amazing.. watched the two booster rockets fall away and then followed them till right before they disappeared behind my neighbors roof line..

Another spectacular display of American excellence, making the extraordinarily difficult look routine. Makes me feel almost the same as hearing the National Anthem. Joe

Saw it from the road near my house as we were driving around. After they parted both stages stayed visible several minutes. Then saw the smoke from my front yard. Very impressive, just like clockwork. It does make you proud to be an American.

It was surreal. Such a clear sky, the smoke wafted for several minutes. People were standing all along the streets.

We saw it from up here! About three minutes after liftoff, it was brightly visible in the low southeast part of the sky.

Spectacular launch! Really unusual in that the sound wave didn't hit us until several seconds after booster separation. At least something's working right with our beloved gubmunt.
