Talk me out of it Security Six

No one ever talked me out of buying a firearm, even the ones that turned out to be mistakes, so I'm not gonna try to talk you out of buying a Security Six. :p

The Six series Rugers are, to me, analogous to K frame Smiths with weight training. Similar size, stronger.

My two PPC revolvers are built up on Six series Rugers. The second of these two revolvers is (was) a back up in the event something went out in my primary during a match. That never happened, with the result that my back up is still brand new. An unused late '70s PPC revolver is, I think, quite unusual.

I also have a 2 3/4" bbl stainless Security Six which I carried off-duty for a number of years. Again, its toughness appealed to me.

I very much like my N and L frame Smiths, but I have always preferred the Ruger Six series over the Smith K frames.

In the interests of diversity, I also have an early iteration new model stainless Blackhawk in .357 caliber. This a very handy revolver for impromptu plinking matches. It is a real tack driver, which people tend not to expect in a SA revolver, so it is a very effective sleeper - at least the first time.

I have Colts, Smiths and Rugers. They are all excellent, so from there it becomes a matter of individual preferences.

Rugers are excellent guns. I have owned security and speed sixes with 2 3/4 inch barrels. Liked them but sold because I like my modell 66 and 64 better. YMMV

You sir, absolutely do NOT need that Ruger Security Six.

Solid lock up is stupid, and way over-rated. sloppy lock up is plenty good enough. And timing? It's GOOD that a gun goes out of time every now and then! It gives you an opportunity to work on your disassembly skills and clean your action or send your gun away on a much needed vacation. You really should have zero interest in a gun that is near legendary for never going out of time. And who needs a gun in the same size range as a Model 19 that you can shoot all the .357 mag you want thru? That's a buncha huey! No one needs that kinda solid build. Accuracy comparable to a S&W for less money? Times are hard man. We need to support our community. You really should spend more money on a lesser revolver. It's the right thing to do.

Finally, where is this Security Six located? I'm passionate about doing the right thing, and feel the need to remove this temptation from availability.

There. I tried.....

On the fer real, I think the Ruger Six Series is an unsung hero of the revolver world. They perform well beyond their price point, but just never get the credit as other revolvers. I think the actions on them are never quite as good as a S&W with equal attention, but I'm not one to get overly wrapped around the axle about the matter.

There is one in my safe as I type that will never leave my family. I wouldn't be opposed to more some time in the distant future.

At one point in time I had 4 blued Six-series Rugers: a 2-3/4" Speed Six, and all 3 barrel lengths for the Security Six. Sold every one of them when I wanted to switch gears in my gun procurement operation and focus on obtaining nice Smiths.

They were all great guns and I regret selling them now. I would definitely snag the one you're considering while you still can!

Although Ruger makes good guns, they are over built, clunky, heavy and unnecessarily large for my purposes.

I always think in terms of how the gun is going to be used. If it’s for range use, Rugers are great. If you want to carry the gun, then Rugers are the sort of gun you’ll regret carrying by noon.

I went back to buy it but when I looked it over I changed my mind.
First off it amazes me how one side of a gun can get so much damage while the other side looks practically new.
I never picked it up when I first saw it, being I didn’t have the money at the time and I don’t like to paw it all up if I’m not serious.
Today I did.
A big scratch on the frame. Numerous nicks, dents etc. Cylinder notches word. Finish on the rear sight was worn off all the sharp edges.
Just really not what I wanted.
Now, for $300 or so I’d be downstairs right now with a gray Scotchbright refurbing it.
$500 was too much for what it was.
Oh well.

Man after my own heart.....

Nope, not a twin. I have a 4” “Low Back” Sec Six, a 6” half lug GP100, a handful of single actions, autos, a PC Carbine.
I celebrate diversity. In firearms, that is.
type of

I don't have a lot of Rugers, but I try to have an example of any type of gun or action and I'm pretty sure that I have most covered. Getting an S&W 5906 would round things out.

I know it’s not a S&W, but.
Lately I’ve bee buying more Rugers than Smiths.
Following this trend I spotted a Ruger 4” SS Security Six which I believe was a Pa. State Police revolver being it had the orange insert in the front sight.
Just under $500.
This would be my 5th “Six Series”.

If you want it............GO buy it...........Why let strangers influence your decision????????????

If you can prove PSP provenance I will pay you either a handsome profitif you buy and resell or a finders fee if you tell me where it is.

I have no way to prove provenance. AFAIK the PSP did not mark their guns. My buddy that was with me when I saw it, said it was a PSP revolver. He’s also the one who told me their pistols weren’t marked as such. He’s retired PSP and thats what he carried early on. According to Wikipedia the front inserts on PSP guns were orange. The gun in question looked bright red to me under fluorescent lights. If you want PM me and I’ll send you the shops info.

The only reason to not buy one is that they are REALLY ugly revolvers.

Why would I talk you out of it??!! :D

Ugly? Maybe........ :D
