So between what my brother gave me recently, and what I've managed to cobble together by piecemeal purchases here & there, I realized that I've managed to squirrel away about 1000 rounds so far.

Something tells me I should just keep buying when I rarely find the stuff. What say ye?

Let's see.........1000 rounds lasts Todd Jarrett just over 10 minutes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...gQMY&feature=related

On a more serious note, you can get a lot of good, useful training out of 50 - 100 rounds if you use it wisely. I'd just buy more as you find it, but don't be afraid to train with a box or two every now and then.

Well, one thing's for sure, I need to find a range situation where I can bring my own ammo.

The range where I shoot now makes you buy their ammo which is that awful Blazer CCI aluminum stuff. That is some seriously dirty ammo. Leaves tons of residue on my pistols after using it. Yuck.

You mean everybody can't shoot in their back yard? I knew there was a good reason I live in a rural area.

Brother...you need to find a new place to shoot.

To answer the question, 1000 rounds would last me three to four trips to the range. That's not much.

Be sure to consider reloading or, at least, have someone like Mastercast reload your old brass. You'll save a lot of money!

I have 500 rounds of 12gauge 3 inch magnum slugs
500 rounds of 2 3/4 low recoil slugs
1,000 rounds of .357 range + 300 jhp's
1,000 rounds of .38 range + 200 jhp's
1,500 rounds of .40 cal range + 600 jhp's
I'm still not done buying,i do shoot but i have had to scale back to once a month so i don't run low when i can't get my range ammo when i need to.
I get paid every 2 weeks so i have a nice ammo allowance that i'm abble to buy 1 box of range ammo and one box of jhp's.

I concur with Photoman. That's about 3 maybe four trips to the range for me. About 2 weeks worth of ammo.

Have you considered reloading?

I ORDER my range ammo in thousand round lots, sometimes twice that. I get it from www.mastercast.net, a topnotch reloading service (and there are many out there who are not). Check their prices, especially their prices if you send them your spent brass in exchange. I do that, also in thousand round lots, by USPS Priority Mail in their nine buck (and a quarter or three) box. Any other way that I know of costs more than twenty.

Cordially, Jack

My wife and I shoot in a couple of Bullseye (gallery course) leagues, so we go through a lot of .22 target ammo. I get the Aguila from CMP in case lots and like to keep about 4 cases (20,000 rounds) on hand at all times. All the rest of the centerfire I have loaded up probably comes to a bit less than half of that, but I've got components squirreled away for perhaps another 30 to 40K in various calibers. After that, I guess it'll be time to take the compound bow out of storage, or maybe just go fishing.
