Anyone have any tips or tricks for mastering flash-sight picture?

I've been picking random objects to focus my eyes on, then holding up my shooting hand's thumb, and then focusing my eyes back on the thumb and the second it's in focus, immediately look away to my next "target" to get used to focusing far/near/far, similar to driving (but only involving much tighter spaces).

What's your drill?

Hard focus on the front sight. As soon as the front sight is on the target, press the trigger.

I do this from the ready and from the holster. From the ready, I can get two shots on target (thoracic cavity), at 5 yards, in less than a second.

When I'm punching holes in paper at the range in target shooting I try to have complete concentration on only the front sight blade.

If the shot fails to go off within a max time of 5 seconds I lower the gun.

When my intended target is a human being I trained to look over the sights at my target. This practice is done at distances between 3 and 7 yards.

Holster or pocket carry is a personal decision but don't shoot yourself getting it out.

I was taught a flash sight picture is part of your presentation from the leather.

Begin with pistol at ready - down. Raise pistol briskly, see front sight, squeeze. When you can get center mass hits in 1.5 seconds from go, begin working from the leather. Your objective is 1.5 seconds for center mass or head from the leather at 7-10 yards.

You shouldn't be admiring your sight picture or lingering over squeezing the trigger. These operations happen very quickly.

I find dotted sights or colored inserts slow things considerably. A good open rear sight helps a lot but needs a wide opening - sometimes a bit of work with a file helps.
