Missus P&R Fan, who is 52, got a trial membership card from the Association of Mature American Citizens. It is for those folks who do not like the AARP, which, among other views, is very anti-gun. Won't go into political views here, but this organization sounds like one we could support. Anybody here a member? If so, what benefits does it have, like discounts?

I'm only 48, so I probably don't qualify. That, plus the fact the word "mature" has never been used to define me. But Missus Fan may fit right in.

Interested in your thoughts on this organization.

Mature citizens seem to be in fairly short supply at least if the popular media is any gauge.

I've heard that they are rogue off-shoot of the, now defunct, AARP tactical response unit. They're a pretty secret bunch that's into the darker side of bird-watching, devil worship, and ceramics. My sources of information may be wrong, of course.

Just joined and trying the auto insurance with a pretty good difference in premiums. Couldn't stomach AARP views/backing and thinking I care/believe what actors think/say. AMAC fits my world views much better. Send in the black helicopters.

I shopped 'til I almost dropped for Medicare supplement insurance. AMAC was $15 to $25 per month cheaper than anybody else I contacted. AMAC beat AARP by $24.87 per month. My 7 hour stay in the emergency room 12/23/12 cost me $0.00 . Doctor, hospital, and ambulance priced out at $1288 per hour.

They also offer lots of discounts I haven't used or needed yet.

I'm not sure if it is worthwhile to join, unless you just want to make a statement of non-support of anti-gun AARP. I've been with AAA for years, mostly for towing in case of an emergency, and the discounts I can get at motels, etc. seem to be the same as given to AARP or this newer organization. Maybe if you need an alternative for supplemental health insurance or auto insurance it would be worth joining.

Now that I am retired I am re-looking at all organizations that I pay membership fees to. As a Life Member of the NRA that one is already paid for, and the only other one I can think of right now is the American Motorcyclist Association and I am re-thinking whether or not to continue my membership. I can't think of any reason to join any other new organizations right now.

Do you have to "prospect" for GOF? I've been called a GOB but I can't find a chapter in my area.
