'Tell Scott Walker' Ad

When I logged on this evening, I was surprised to see an ad banner soliciting the signing of a petition against the concealed carry bill that is currently being discussed in Wisconsin. Although I understand both sides of the concealed carry issue, it seems odd to me that such an ad would be posted on this forum. I'm attempting to tread lightly here - that's why I've edited this post several times already...

Google ads are not chosen by us. I don't see that ad because Google is smart enough to show it to people in that area only.

CONSOLE yourself with this- that ad was WASTED on you.
Their advertising money was WASTED by showing that ad to YOU, and they bought a finite number of presentations.
Don't you wish "we" were the only people who see "their" ads?

It's because this site and many like contract with companies like google ads to generate revenue to keep the site running. They have no say as to what ads are displayed. While I do understand the need for sites to do this, I also feel that there should be some provision in the contract that certain subjects should not be advertised on certain sites. Anti gun ads on gun related sites should not be, just like anti hunting ads on hunting related sites should be taboo as well. Just chalk it up the the rule of the Almighty $, even though it isn't that mighty anymore.

Let's think this through-

Are you afraid an ad will change your mind, and make you anti-gun?

An ad has a certain number of presentations, and ONLY that number of presentations.
Let's say the anti's bought 100,000 presentations. That is all they will get.
If 10,132 of those presentations are made here, you could say that over 10% of their ads were WASTED (unless you change your mind).
Plus, people here on this board are also getting informed about what they are doing.

I almost wish that all anti-gun ads were displayed on gun forums.
That would mean their ads would be almost 100% INEFFECTIVE.

Thanks for the comments - I understand the issue more clearly now. Just to clarify: The Wisconsin legislature has, in the past, attempted to pass a concealed carry provision in the State, only to see it vetoed twice by the former Governor. The current Governor, Scott Walker, has indicated he will sign such a measure, the specifics of which are currently being determined. The subject ad is sponsored by the Wisconsin Anti Violence Effort (WAVE), which opposes the measure.

As a Wisconsinite who is looking forward to the chance to finally CC, I would like to add this. The liberals who oppose CC in Wisconsin had 2 chances to approve a bill with WAY MORE restrictions, training requirements and fees, but former Governor Jim Doyle vetoed both bills that were passed in the legislature. Now that they are out of power, a much more gun owner friendly bill will certainly be passed and signed by Governor Walker. Had the libs given us a junky bill we would be stuck with it for now, as there are far more pressing issues facing the state. But because the conservatives don't know how long they will be in power, they are moving to get a bill passed sooner than later, even with all of the budget issues.

They could have handed us a **** sandwich that we would still be chewing on today, but now it looks like we may just get a pretty decent steak dinner!

The latest news indicates that the bill going forward will require both a permit and training, but will be a 'shall-issue' if the applicant passes the background check and qualifies with regard to training, whatever that may look like. I couldn't envision that the State would pass any bill that didn't put some $$$ in the coffers.

I think every State in the Union should have concealed carry permits. They should have your photograph and be accepted in all 50 States, just like a Drivers license. My Va conceal carry is a business card type paper, with an embossed seal, a signature of the County Clerk, but no photo, you are required to carry State photo id with it.

i have seen Police id's that look even more amateurish than my conceal carry permit, no photo, no seal. When you used to buy a shield case, the manufacturer used to have a universal cheesy id card that was hand filled out. You would throw that out, put your real id card in it's place along with your shield.

They also need to push for legislation where legitimate permit holders cannot have their firearms confiscated like during Hurricane Katrina. Just when you need it, they take it away, because you are listed. Yet felons do not file for a permit and get to keep his because theState does not know about them.


BTW if you look at the bottom of the thread, you will see "tags" 669, case, casing, concealed, sig arms, universal ? Google com will pick out key words and randomly assign an ad with the keyword. This is also done with gmail, google's free email service. It will pick out a keyword and throw up an ad. So they hit on "conceal" and may throw out a pro or con concealed carry ad.

I have mixed feelings about a national cc permit. I like it because I could carry out-of-state. I don't like the idea of changing Vermont law to a permit system. It's interesting that states claiming to be "gun friendly" have a permit system, including other New England states. Mention the word "permit" to the average Vermonter and he'd assume you're joking or from another state and have no understanding of our culture.

Steve, don't you qualify for the LEOSA act? To me a permit shows that you had a background check and are not disqualified to carry.

I hear you, and I understand your reasoning. I guess it all falls to the 1'rst Amendment. I don't have to like what their saying but they do have a right to say it.

Well, since the law has now passed both houses, and will be signed into law on July 8th, they are just beating a dead horse with this add.
