Well I finally found a S&W Model 19-4 snub-nose. I should say I finally found one that I was willing to pay for. It cost me $675.00. I had to sell a couple of my guns to Cabelas in order to have enough cash (none of my S&W guns), but I'm tired of either finding one and not being able to afford it or not finding one when I have the money. I know that I would have made more money if I sold the guns directly to another private person, but that might take awhile and by then the Model 19 would have sold. So I took the loss. That's capitalism for you. I bit the bullet. I'm sure almost everyone here can understand sometimes dropping more money than you might like for that model that you've wanted for years. Whether it's a Model 27 3.5" barrel, pre-war S&W Outdoorsman, nickel plated Colt Government Model in Super 38, Colt Python or whatever you like.

Looks like it was a cop's Model 19. Mechanically it's very sound. Bore is clean. Passed the function check. Timing and endshake are good and I think mostly 38 Special was fired in it. Most of the wear to the finish is on the cylinder and the muzzle. Classic holster wear pattern. Date of birth is 1980. Lot of money (for me), but now I got my Model 19 snub-nose.

It took me over 30 years to finally commit.

They won't be going anywhere lifetime

I know you will be happy.

I added my 640 also a great gun.
All three wear Grasshorn stags.

3 years from now, when everyone is paying $1K for a Model 19 snub, you can be the guy that posts: "A GRAND? I remember when I bought mine a couple of years ago and only paid $675!" Congrats.

Very true. Good point. I am very happy with my find. It's been a long search.

Great find in this day and age...... I had a 2 1/2 inch 19 in the mid-'80s ;but sold it to a friend after getting a 3" 66. Figured I could always get another ; they were everywhere.

At the beginning of this century I realized that the only K-frame's I had were my 2 3" 66s.

Feeling I should correct this laps in judgment..... I set out to get a 4" 19 or 66........ only to discover all the 19/66s I remembered in the gun shops of the 70s and 80s were...........MISSING!!!

Finding out that these old standbys were ............ scarce I started a quest...........

It took me close to 10 years to find "nice" examples of 2 1/2 inch and 4 inch 19s and 66s in local gun shops.

Don't think I've seen one in at least 5-6 years.

The once vast herds of Model 19's have gone away. I now own a 19-3 6" and the 19-4 2.5". Both were lucky finds. Now Glock and Taurus are everywhere, but 19's and 28's are getting harder to find. That's my life story. Always playing catch-up.But it does make a find all that much sweeter.

I've made a few lopsided trades in my life to get the guns I wanted. It happens. I'm sure you'll enjoy owning that 19 long after you forget you lost a buck or two. Around here you could sell that 19 snub for 150 to 200 dollars more than you gave for it, if that makes you feel better, lol.
I've owned two 2 1/2 inch 19s in the past, and my sad plight is like BAM-BAM's. Now I never see them and when I do they are 8 bills or so. My quest continues...

Nice....... pair

My search was for "nice" and P&R.........

In the 90s I was shooting more autos and my 4"/6" .357 needs were met with 686/586s; and the 3" 66s were great for either concealed carry or "woods bumming" at the cabin.

The 19/66s had faded away without my notice.

I'm glade I found mine in the 1st decade of the 21st Century...... when they were still affordable/cheap if you could find one...LOL

You know, talking about prices, seems like a good gun cost about a weeks pay for most of us. Back when I worked in a gun shop in the early 80's a new 19 was a weeks pay. Now it's the same ( for me anyway),about a weeks pay. So, guess they cost about the same as they did in my "fuzzy math" figuring.
