Headed to the Gulf for a few days next week. I would like to pickup some fresh fish while we are there. Can anyone offer suggestions as to where I can get some fresh fish in the Galveston or Port Arthur area? I don't mean seafood restaurants, I mean fish, like right off the boat.

My suggestion would be to head to Rollover Pass with a pole and catch your own fish.

Although, there was a place somewhere in Port Arthur where I used to buy shrimp right off the boats. Just can't recall exactly where because I haven't been that way in about twenty five years.

There are some good fish markets in Seabrook. I have bought fish at Rose's quite a few times and have gotten some very nice fish and shrimp there. Seabrook is by Kemah. There are serveral other fish markets there that are good too.

There's a small place in Galveston on the water just beyond the tourist area. Great fresh fish and they will skin them for you if you like. Sorry I can't recall the name but I'm sure locals can help.

Go exploring. That's half the fun of it. Look the fish in the eye to determine how fresh it is. Look for clear eyes. Salmon are not Gulf fish. Red Fish and Speckled Trout will be from LA not TX. I'd look for good deals on fresh caught shrimp and do a Bubba Gump on them. Reminds me, I need to pull a few from the freezer tonight to thaw for tomorrow.

Another vote for Seabrook. Find out when the boats come in and pick up your fish right off the boats.

This thread got me stoked, so out of the freezer came a few Texas caught wild Gulf of Mexico shrimp. Peeled and de-veined, dusted with Slap Ya Mama Cajun Seasonings, sauteed in butter, 3 minutes on one side then two minutes on the other. Oh so Good! :)
